Potions and other consumables are a constant necessistiy in Diablo IV, but they don't work exactly the same as they did in previous Diablo titles. Follow our Diablo IV Alchemy Guide to find out more.

Want to know what content is worth doing once you've increased your World Tier? Check out our guides on Nightmare DungeonsHelltide, and Whispers of the Dead. We also cover how you should be upgrading your gear and the Paragon system.

Diablo IV Alchemy Materials

Alchemy materials in Diablo IV are primarily found throughout the open world, via plants that you can interact with. These respawn relatively frequently, and are always worth gathering when on the move to your next quest or dungeon. Some sidequests will also reward you with caches containing an assortment of materials, good if you're not going out of your way to explore.

If you have an abundance of a certain material, then it's possible to refine them into a different one at an Alchemist. This can only be used to obtain Magic rarity materials, and you must still gather rarer ones normally.

How Unlock Stronger Potions in Diablo IV

Healing potions have been changed once again for Diablo IV. While you still have a recharging pool of potions (5 to start with, 9 after increasing your Renown in each region), you must now upgrade your healing potion's effectiveness at an Alchemist. All potions restore a certain amount of life instantly, along with an extra 35% of your max life over 3 seconds.

Diablo IV Incense

Unlike the previous alchemy creations, Incense can be used to buff multiple people at once. All Incense will apply a 20 minute buff to every nearby player, meaning you can use it to help other players even when you're in the open world. Incenses come in types, and only one of each type can be active at a time.
