If you're feeling lonely wandering the underground in Core Keeper, have no fear, pets are here! There are 11 different pets you can choose from, each with their own set of skills and bonuses for your character. Here's how to get all pets in Core Keeper and how they aid you.

How to Get a Pet in Core Keeper

Pets are hatched from eggs found in biomes or obtained as loot from boss fights in Core Keeper. Each pet has their own specific egg, which needs to be incubated for 30 minutes before hatching. Egg Incubators are crafted from a Copper Workbench. They require x8 Copper Bar and x8 Glass Piece per incubator, and need electricity to run. When you have an egg, place it in the incubator and wait until complete. Take the "cracked" version and place it in your hotbar. Use the cracked egg, like using an item, to have it hatch into your new pet. You'll earn the Your Very First achievement for hatching your first pet, regardless of the type of egg.

You can only have one pet equipped at a time, but the rest can be stored in chests. The same type of pet can come in eight different colors, except for the slimes. There's even an achievement, I want 'em all!, that rewards you for having each color of a pet stored in your chests. However, levels and stats of hatched pets all start at one and aren't transferable between members of the same species.

How to Level Up Your Pet

Once you've picked a pet you like and equipped it, it'll gain experience as you deal damage to enemies. To reach level 10, your pet will need to gain 99,718 experience. There are three helpful items categorized as Pet Candy, however, that can quickly boost that.

Pet Candy

Feed these to your pet to have it instantly gain the listed experience.

  • Pet Pellet: Gain +50 experience
  • Rare Candy: Gain +500 experience
  • Beast Booster: Gain +5,000 experience

You'll earn the achievement Pet Prodigy when you have a pet reach max level.
