In this Core Keeper Cattle Guide, we tell you how to capture the adorable animals you can find in the world and how they can produce useful items for you.
The world of Core Keeper can be pretty harsh at times, but not everything is out to kill you. Aside from fish and bugs, you can also find some helpful animals that you can take care of and get some new resources in return. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about Cattle!
How Core Keeper Cattle Work
Core Keeper Cattle are generated when a world is first created in their respective Biomes, These are totally passive creatures that can be captured and fed; in exchange, they will produce useful goods (some of which are needed for the best equipment out there).
First and foremost, it's important to note that Cattle do not respawn as far as we know. They can and will be killed by enemies, environmental hazards, or yourself. It could be very difficult to capture the Cattle you need if you let them roam around on their own for too long; therefore, you should strive to capture at least two of every animal as quickly as possible.
Once a Cattle has been fed, it will slowly begin producing its unique resource. It will then drop that resource on the ground and require more food to continue producing. Cattle are a pretty great way to generate passive resources as long as you don't mind catching bugs, fishing, and farming to create the food they'll need to produce those goods.
You can also breed Cattle. You'll never have to worry about running out of Cattle as long as you have at least two of them in a safe location and you continue to feed them. Cattle will breed after they have produced items a few times. It's quite a slow process, though, so you should always try to grab more Cattle in the wild if you can!
Where to Find Cattle
You can find Cattle animals in the following locations:
- Moolin: The Moolin can be found in the Meadows sub-Biome, which can be found within The Dirt Biome and Azeos' Wilderness Biomes.
- Bambuck: The Bambuck can also be found in the Meadows sub-Biome.
- Strolly Poly: The Strolly Poly can be found in The Forgotten Ruins and The Desert of Beginnings Biomes.
- Kelpie: The Kelpie can be found in The Sunken Sea Biome.
- Dodo: The Dodo can be found in Azeos' Wilderness and The Desert of Beginnings.
How to Transport Cattle
There are three ways to transport Cattle in Core Keeper:
- Craft a Cattle Transport Box (6 Plank, 2 Tin Bar, 3 Iron Bar) at a Livestock Workbench, put it on your Hotbar, and use it on a Cattle to convert it into an inventory item.
- Craft a Leash (8 Fiber) at a Livestock Workbench and walk the Cattle to where you want it to go. You can only have one Cattle on a Leash at a time.
- Hold the Cattle's favorite food in your hand and it will slowly follow you.
Crafting multiple Cattle Transport Boxes is undeniably the best way to move Cattle back to your base. Leashs or holding food is far too slow, and that renders both you and the Cattle vulnerable to attack. Remember: once a Cattle is dead, it's gone for good!
How to Feed Cattle
There are three ways to feed Cattle in Core Keeper:
- Craft a Feeding Tray (10 Wood, 5 Copper Bar) at a Livestock Bench, place it near the Cattle, and fill it with their favorite food.
- Drop the Cattle's favorite food on the floor.
- Hold the Cattle's favorite food in your hand and it will walk up to you and eat it.
As with transporting Cattle, there is really only one good solution here: building Feeding Trays and keeping them stocked with the Cattle's favorite foods.
It is generally a good idea to create separate pens for each type of Cattle. This allows you to ensure that you are only producing the resources you actually want by only feeding the correct Cattle.
How to Breed Cattle
Cattle will automatically breed as long as two Cattle of the same species are in proximity to one another and they have produced resources a few dozen times. There is no way to speed up the process other than ensuring a steady supply of food for your Cattle.
