Conscript Guide | HUD Explanation

HUD Explanation In-Game Screen with Numbers in Conscript

  1. Highlighted Loot: If you're near loot, it will be highlighted on the bottom left of the screen.
  2. Context-Sensitive Information: Icons and a text prompt will pop up if you're near something you can interact with. Sometimes, an item will be concealed by a wall or furniture and this is the only way to tell that it is there.
  3. Stamina: Stamina is required for running and melee attacks. It runs out very quickly.
  4. Health: The standard-issue Health meter. If it drops to 0, you die.

Although the HUD is fairly minimalistic, there is some additional information in the inventory screen.

  • Ink: Ink Tablets are required to save your game, unless you select "Unlimited Saves" at the start of the game. (If you do, Ink Tablets won't spawn at all.)
  • Gun Parts: Gun Parts are used to upgrade one of a particular gun's stats at the trader.
  • Cigarettes: Cigarettes are the currency used to buy and sell items with the trader.
  • Condition: Condition is a general representation of the state of your character, just like the classic Resident Evil games.

Those are the basics of the HUD. With that established, let's move on to the Starter Guide!

Conscript Guide | Starter Guide and Gameplay Tips

Now that we've explained the HUD in our Conscript Guide, let's get moving on our Starter Guide! This Beginner's Guide will give you some key tips and tricks that will make things a little easier for you.

How Aiming Works

You can aim your melee or ranged weapon in Conscript by holding down the aim button (Q or right-click on PC). The crosshairs will start large and slowly begin to shrink. If you don't take enough time to aim, you can miss your attack entirely.

It can be difficult to determine if your ranged shot can hit an enemy. If they're partially obstructed, it's better to retreat and try aiming again until you have a clear line of sight to the enemy.

How to Hide from Soldiers

You can hide from soldiers by avoiding running, not using the Torch, and staying out of sight. Some areas will have small alcoves with curtains where you can conceal yourself and allow an enemy to pass by.

Note that you cannot hide from an enemy once they've spotted you; they'll attack you if you try to retreat in an alcove once they've already spotted you. Your best option is to leave the area to reset the enemies. Enemies who spot you will also shout out and alert other enemies in the area.

How to Stealth Kill Soldiers

You can stealth kill most regular soldiers by hitting them from behind with the Trench Shovel or a stronger melee weapon. You can one-hit kill most regular enemies on Soldier (Default) difficulty and lower.

How to Craft Ammo

You can craft ammo in Conscript by combining Gunpowder with Chemical Fluid. The type of Gunpowder determines the type of bullet:

  • Gunpowder A: Pistol Rounds
  • Gunpowder B: Rifle Rounds
  • Gunpowder C: Shotgun Shells
  • Gunpowder D: Handcannon Rounds

You can make the next tier of Gunpowder by Combining two of the same type. For example, you can Combine Gunpowder A + Gunpowder A to make 1 Gunpowder B. Each batch of crafted ammo gives you a few rounds.

How to Deal with Rats

Rats can damage you and afflict you with the Infection debuff which permanently reduces your health until it's cured. Furthermore, groups of Rats can quickly kill you if you get overwhelmed.

The best way to deal with Rats is to prevent them from spawning in the first place. Using a Grenade to seal a Rat Hole will permanently prevent Rats from spawning in that section of the map. You can also use Fuel and then use the Lighter to burn corpses of enemies that you've killed; this will prevent Rats from spawning on that specific Corpse.

Rats can be killed with a fully-charged melee hit from the Trench Shovel on Soldier (Default) difficulty. It's best to take them on one at a time where possible. You can also set a fire using Fuel and the Lighter and lure them into it.

How to Cure Infection

Infection will temporarily reduce your maximum health until you cure it with a Medkit or a Disinfectant Bandage. Here's what it looks like when you're Infected:

There are two known ways of curing Infection:

  • Using a Medkit
  • Using a Disinfectant Bandage

You can make a Disinfectant Bandage by combining a Bandage with Alcohol or Chemical Fluid. Note that combining Alcohol or Chemical Fluid will make a Fire Bomb, which is very much not a healing item; you have to combine the Alcohol or Chemical Fluid with a Bandage and a Bandage only.

Chemical Fluid can be used to make bullets, so it's best to save it for crafting ammo. Use Medkits or Alcohol + Bandage to cure Infection.

Do Enemies Respawn?

Yes, enemies respawn in Conscript. Enemies can return to an area that hasn't been completely protected by Wire Spools (based on the description of that item). Enemies can also spawn in an area during certain story events; for example, picking up the Pigeon Coop Key will cause several enemies to spawn in behind you.

How to Use the Wire Spool

You can use the Wire Spool in Conscript by finding a breach in the barbed wire around the upper part of trenches. Interact with that area and you'll get a prompt that the wire is broken and you can repair it. Based on the item description, using the Wire Spool will prevent enemies from respawning in that area.
