Where to Find Every Expedition Journal in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

This guide will go over where to find the many Expedition Journals in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a series of collectables scattered across the entire world.

Missable Journal

While most of the Expedition Journals can be found at any point in the game, there is one that seems to be missable. You can always get it in New Game+, but make sure to do the below step if you want to avoid this.

This requires an item from the Prologue, where you play as Gustave before he's about to set off to the continent. You can obtain up to three tokens, each used at the stalls lining the side of the "party".

The one you want to pay attention to is the woman in blue, who will trade one of the tokens for an Old Key. This unassuming item is (most likely) the only way to obtain the Survivor Expedition Journal, though you wont need this until a fair bit later in the game.

Otherwise, everything else should be obtainable regardless of story progress. Most are found in specific areas, while others are directly on the world map.

Expedition Journal Locations

• 34: The Crows, at the start
• 35: Falling Leaves, at the end of the first area before the miniboss
• 36: White Tree
• 38: Yellow Harvest. Head up the slope in the lake area (same as journal 44)
• 39: Visages. Sadness Vale flag, head right before the mask and go up the hill
• 41: Forgotten Battlefield. From 48 (Battlefield) flag, head back and then into the right trench. There’s a smouldering section to the left shortly in
• 42: Old Lumiere. Before walking towards the manor/exit at the end, keep going right. You’ll reach a zipline which takes you to the journal
• 43: World map, small island to the east

• 44: Yellow Harvest, lake area
• 45: Crushing Cavern. Kill the Giant Sapling then head up the zipline
• 46: Sirene’s Dress. Requires Lune bond event progress to enter
• 47: World map, south of Old Lumiere
• 48: Stone Quarry
• 49: Falling Leaves. Talk to the boy by the door in the first area, then turn around and go down into the lower path. Talk to the being hanging from the wall, then return to the boy. Journal is along the path behind the door, after going up the grapple line.
• 50: Stone Wave Cliffs. Section with lots of hexagonal rock formations, by the cliffs
• 51: Frozen Hearts, near the back of the first area
• 52: Gestral Village, near Gestral Arena. In path between large white Gestral doctor and arena sign
• 53: The Small Burgeon, at the back
• 54: Stone Wave Cliffs Cave, near boss
• 55: Sirene. After Dancing Classes flag, along right side
• 56: Stone Wave Cliffs. Early on, near bridge
• 57: Forgotten Battlefield, shortly after leaving main battlefield
• 59: Yellow Harvest. Near Yellow Spire Wrecks flag
• 60: Lumiere: Head right just before entering the opera house and and interact icon will appear by the ledge.
• 61: The Reacher, Foggy Area. Main path before balloon
• 62: World map, east of Yellow Harvest

• 63: Ancient Sanctuary, head left before going to 70 (Giant Bell Alley) flag.
• 64: World map, east of Ancient Gestral City
• 65: Monoco’s Station. Far side of station after completing Gradient Attack tutorial
• 66: Esquie’s Nest, at the camp shortly after recruiting Esquie
• 67: Sirene. Near Dancing Arena flag
• 68: Flying Waters - Coral Cave. Along main path
• 69: Visages. Joy Vale, head left after the flag
• 70: Inside the Monolith, Tainted Lumiere. Gap between buildings in area with a bunch of stalls leads to open section with multiple grapple points.
• 78: Stone Wave Cliffs. Go up the zipline to the right in the area after the flag.
• 81: Story, unmissable
• 84: The Fountain, at the end
• Aline: Inside the Monolith. Tainted Battlefield. After passing the main battlefield, head left into the cave and go through the door to the Manor.
• Julie: World map, platform west of Stone Quarry/Forgotten Battlefield exit (Verso journal is nearby as well)

• Renoir: Old Lumiere. Before manor at end, go left and into the door
• Simon: Unlock diving from Esquie's friendship events, then progress through Renoir’s Drafts (found at the north of the world map). At the end you'll enter The Abyss, featuring Simon, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's final superboss. Defeating him will let you collect the journal.
• Survivor: Old Lumiere. Inside pipe during section where Maelle and Verso are separated from group (requires Old Key obtained during prologue shop)

• Unknown: Take the portrait painting from The Canvas, then place it in the empty frame right of the main stairs in The Manor. The door at the back will then open

• Unknown: The Reacher, Ladder Area. Drop down into area after the flag and go through door to Manor
• Unknown: Visages: Anger Vale. Head right into the cave before the mask, then right again. Go through door to manor, then open next door
• Verso: World map, platform west of Stone Quarry/Forgotten Battlefield exit
