This Chef RPG Farming Guide will tell you how to unlock the greenhouse and how you can use farming to get large amounts of ingredients for your cooking on the cheap.

Cooking is a big part of Chef RPG, but you can't cook anything without the right ingredients. While you can forage for the foodstuffs you need (or just buy them from merchants), you can also grow a small selection of crops once you've unlocked that ability. Read on to learn everything you need to know about farming!

You'll need to water crops every day to keep them growing unless you craft some Sprinklers.

How to Unlock Chef RPG Farming and the Greenhouse

You have to complete two steps to unlock Chef RPG farming and the greenhouse:

  1. Take the "Farming" skill
  2. Progress the story to Act 2

When Act 2 begins, you'll learn that your neighbor April has returned from a trip. April allows you to use the greenhouse adjacent to her home at any time. She'll also teach you the basics of brewing Tea.

How to Get Plant Seeds

There are two ways to get plant seeds in Chef RPG:

  1. Purchasing them from shops
  2. Receiving them as a random drop from hunting animals

Seeds are fairly rare overall; like most of the ingredients in the game, shopkeepers will only stock a finite amount and they'll go through a rotating selection of available seeds every day. Our experience suggests that increasing your friendship with shopkeepers will increase the chances of them carrying more seeds, although we haven't explicitly confirmed this yet.

Merchants will sell seeds once you've unlocked the Farming Skill.

How Farming Works in Chef RPG

Chef RPG farming works just like you'd expect: you have to plant seeds, water them, and then harvest them when they've grown. It appears that all seeds grow at the same rate and take about a week to grow as far as we can tell as of Early Access version 0.5.

Naturally, you'll need some equipment for farming. You can buy a Watering Can and a Shovel from the Huntorium in the southwest area of the map. The Watering Can is used to water crops and the Shovel is used to remove planted crops.

The greenhouse has a compost bin on the left side. You can use it to make Compost. Compost is an item that can increase the yield of planted crops, giving you more ingredients once you're ready to harvest them.

Unfortunately, harvesting a crop does not give you a seed back. That means that seeds can only be used one time. It's always a good idea to buy seeds whenever you see them for sale, even if you don't want to grow that particular crop right away. It's good to stock up in case you discover new recipes later!

How to Get a Sprinkler

You can get a Sprinkler in Chef RPG by talking to Bianca and going into the "Crafting" menu. Bianca will then be able to make one of two Sprinklers for you in exchange for some Credits and some resources that you can find in the mines.

You can use a lot of items to make compost for your farm. Failed brewing experiments are a good choice since these items are otherwise useless.
