This guide will tell you how to complete the Brighter Shores The Lost Shipment quest with a full walkthrough and a list of the skills and items you'll need.
Brighter Shores is about more than grinding your skills in fishing and cooking — there are also a bunch of cool side quests that you can explore. Many of these quests require a lot of legwork and "The Lost Shipment" quest is no exception. Read on to learn how to find the missing ship of plumbatae!
Brighter Shores The Lost Shipment Quest Walkthrough
The first part of this Brighter Shores The Lost Shipment Quest Walkthrough will detail the preparations that you need to make. You'll need to invest in some skills and equipment before you can finish this quest, so it's a good idea to get things in order before you start.
Preparing for The Lost Shipment Quest
Here's what you'll need:
- Tutorial completed: You'll need to complete the tutorial quests so you can access the majority of the Hopeport map.
- Fisherman Level 25: You'll need to catch a quest-specific fish and you'll need the Fisherman profession at Level 25 in order to catch it.
- Guard Level 20+: The quest will have some combat near the end and you'll ideally want to have your Guard profession to at least Level 20. Having it at Level 25 or more would be better as that would increase your survivability.
- 10+ 20% Healing Potions: Unless you have a very high Guard profession level, you'll likely take a fair amount of damage from combat at the climax of this quest. I recommend having at least ten 20% Healing Potions on you.
- 12+ Silver: You will have to purchase some items for this quest and you'll need around 12 Silver to pay for it all.
Starting Your Investigation
This will be an undercover operation, so you'll want to start by removing all of your armor — if you look like a Guard, many people won't talk to you.
Head to the ship named the Vincible on the eastern dock of the East Waterfront on the Hopeport map. Go to the quarterdeck and speak with Captain Shirker. Offer to go for a meal with him and he'll head to The Delectable Dab Restaurant off of Stone Street, right next to the Training Ground where you started the game.
Dinner Conversation
Sit down next to Captain Shirker at The Delectable Dab Restaurant. Order some food and pay for it. You'll then have to have a conversation with Captain Shirker.
Avoid mentioning anything about the lost shipment or about your membership in the Guard. Do not ask about the lost shipment right away; instead, you should go through every other dialogue option and ask about the lost shipment last.
Captain Shirker will be more willing to talk about the lost shipment once he's a little more comfortable. Express sympathy about the imposter and he'll tell you that he talked with a man in a blue waistcoat. You can now leave.
The Man in the Blue Waistcoat and the Monobrow
Fortunately, you don't have to travel far to find the man in the blue waistcoat — he can be found in the Town Square just south of Stone Street. Speak with him and he'll tell you about Monobrow Sam.
Monobrow Sam earned his name by having a monobrow and you'll need to impersonate him. That means you'll have to head to the Hairdresser off of Old Street West and make the absolutely unhinged request to get a monobrow. It will cost you a little under 10 Silver for this horrible, horrible work of art.
Heading to the Hooked Hand
With your shiny new monobrow, it's time to go to The Hooked Hand off of the Central Waterfront. Go inside and talk to Wellington and Nelson. As before, you'll want to be subtle and avoid mentioning that you're in the Guard or anything about the lost shipment right away.
A man named Harris Slant will walk up. Ask him about the plumbatae and he'll refer you to a man known only as... The Illusion. Contacting The Illusion requires you to catch a quest-specific fish and write a message, so you'll need to get some supplies.
Sending a Message
Leave The Hooked Hand and head west along the waterfront. Your ultimate goal is the Overgrown Pond north of the Sea Road.
Normally, the Overgrown Pond only has Pond Weed in it. This quest generates a unique fish called a Fetid Flounder that can only be found in this pond. Catch the Fetid Flounder.
Head back to the Town Square, either by using the Teleport spell to return to the Hopeport Portal Stone or by walking there. Go west from the Town Square down Brannof Boulevard and head into Brannof's Chamber. You'll find a Quill and Ink along with some Paper on his desk; take both of these items. (You'll also need them for The Brannof Inheritance quest.)
Fishy Business
Open your quest inventory and use the Quill and Ink on the paper to write an order for the plumbatae. Then, use the written order for the plumbatae on the Fetid Flounder to stuff it inside.
Walk back through the Town Square and head south to The Frequently Fresh Fish Stall on Eel Street. Sell the Fetid Flounder to the Fishmonger; unfortunately, you'll have to pay him a little bit of copper for him to take this terrible fish off of your hands.
Next, interact with the nearby bush to lurk behind it and you'll see a shady figure come up and purchase the Fetid Flounder.
Follow That Flounder
It's time to get moving — follow the stranger who purchased the Fetid Flounder. You'll have to go down Wilhope Crossing, east through Wilhope Passage, and north into Monob Row.
The stranger will knock on a previously locked door and head inside. Walk up to the door and say that you're Monobrow Sam to gain access. Once the door is open, don't head inside right away — it's time to reequip your armor.
Taking Down the Thieves
The doorway that's just been unlocked leads to the Thieves' Den. There are two people inside and you'll have to fight them.
This battle can be tricky if your Guard level is too low; one of these enemies is rated for Guard level 30! I was able to successfully defeat both of them by making good use of 20% Healing Potions, and you shouldn't have too much of a problem as long as you have decent gear.
Don't worry if you fail or run out of potions; you'll be able to make your way back to the Thieves' Den and restart this fight at any time once you've opened the doors.
Defeat the two thieves and other members of the Guard will burst in just in time to do absolutely nothing. This brings the investigation to an end, and you'll also get a pretty great reward:
- 15,600 Fisherman XP
- 17,200 Guard XP
- a Rare Carthian Plumbatae
I'm not sure if these quest rewards are leveled, but I did notice that the Rare Carthian Plumbatae I got required a Guard level of 30 before I could use it. It seems that this quest may be tuned for Guard level 30 characters, but it's certainly possible to take it on if you make good use of potions and you have solid weapons and armor.
With that, the Brighter Shores The Lost Shipment quest is completed and you can move on to other adventures in Hopeport and beyond!
