In this guide, we'll explain how Brighter Shores Knowledge Points and Passive Activities work and how you can use them to level up your character faster.
You'll spend a lot of time in Brighter Shores leveling up your professions, but running around the map while cutting down trees and gathering plants can get tedious after a while. Fortunately, there's a way to boost your XP gain and even earn XP while you're logged off — keep reading to learn all about Knowledge Points and Passive Skills!
How Brighter Shores Knowledge Points Work
Brighter Shores Knowledge Points are earned simply by leveling up your other professions. Whether you're fighting enemies as a Scout in Hopeforest or fishing on the docks of Hopeport, each little bit of XP gain will also increase progress on your Knowledge Points.
You can view the progress of Knowledge by looking at the Professions menu at any time.
When you acquire a Knowledge Point, you will have three options for spending it:
- Unlocking a new Passive Activity
- Increasing the XP of a profession that is at least Level 20
- Earning a small amount of money
As far as I can tell, you can't earn more Knowledge Points until you've spent the one you earned.
Unless you're in dire need of money, you should always strive to unlock new Passive Activities first. If you don't have any new Passive Activities to unlock, you should use the Knowledge Point to increase the XP of one of your professions. Using Knowledge Points to get money should always be a last resort.
You will need to spend additional Knowledge Points for each successive level of Passive Activities that you unlock. Higher-level Passive Activities often have better rewards, but you may also need the unique items offered by different Passive Activities for the crafting professions such as cooking or carpentry.
How Passive Activities Work in Brighter Shores
Passive Activities in Brighter Shores allow you to passively gain XP in a particular profession once you've advanced that profession to Level 20 and spent a Knowledge Point to unlock the Passive Activity. Passive Activities will continue to earn you XP after you've logged out.
Combat-oriented professions such as Guard and Scout don't require much beyond having a weapon, but other professions are a different story. Some professions (such as Woodcutter) require specialized tools just for that Passive Activity.
In some cases, you may also require special containers or other items. As the above image shows, catching fish requires bait (the Slippy Sea Slug) and containers for the fish (the Crates). If you run out of these supplies (or space in your inventory), the Passive Activity will halt; it's important to regularly check in and get some fresh supplies if needed.
The XP gain from Passive Activities is fairly slow when compared to actively gaining XP in any profession. In many cases, you'll miss out on other benefits; the combat Passive Activities, for example, will give you some money but you won't earn any loot. And, of course, you can only do one Passive Activity at a time.
Passive Activities won't gain you XP faster than leveling a profession normally, but they will help you gain XP while you're logged off of Brighter Shores or playing as another character. Invest your Knowledge Points in Passive Activities and you'll see noticeable gains overnight!
