This Avowed Crafting Guide will tell you how to upgrade weapons and armor and how you can upgrade your items to the next quality tier.

How Crafting Works
There are essentially only two types of Avowed Crafting: upgrading items and upgrading Upgrade Materials. Items can be upgraded to a higher level (and eventually a new tier) by spending certain Upgrade Materials, and the Upgrade Materials themselves can be crafted into the next tier of Upgrade Materials at a 3:1 ratio.
You cannot see higher tiers of Upgrade Materials until you find them in the world or get your hands on a higher-tier weapon. For example, you won't see Petrified Wood Branch until the end of Dawnshore at the earliest.
Note that Upgrade Materials can be found as loot, purchased in stores, or received from breaking down items. Breaking down unwanted Unique Items is often the easiest way to get your hands on some Adra, the rarest and most expensive Upgrade Material of them all.
You can only upgrade items at the Workbench in the Party Camp. The game will alert you when you have enough Upgrade Materials to upgrade one of your equipped weapons or armor.
How to Upgrade Items
You can upgrade items by going to the Workbench in your Party Camp, selecting the item you want to upgrade, and spending the appropriate amount of Upgrade Materials to advance it to the next level. You'll also need to spend some Skeyt for higher-level upgrades. Items can have levels ranging from 0/3 to 3/3.
Upgrading typically requires a universal Upgrade Material (such as Hylea's Talon in Emerald Stair) and one other material. Generally speaking, bows and shields take Branches, melee weapons take Steel, and armor takes Hide. So to upgrade a bow, you'll need a few of the regional Upgrade Material and a few Branches of the appropriate level.
How to Upgrade Items to a New Tier
Upgrading an item to the next tier (e.g. from Fine to Exceptional) will require you to use Adra, the rarest and most expensive Upgrade Material of them all. You can find Adra as loot or purchase Adra from stores, but don't forget that you can also break down Unique Items to get Adra, too.
Only Unique Items can be advanced to the Legendary Tier. You should replace your standard equipment with Unique Items as soon as you can; the additional Enchantments are incredibly useful.
