How Cooking and Buff Foods Work
There isn't much to the Avowed cooking system — you can craft simple recipes at the Cauldron in your Party Camp. Still, the buffs that you can get from certain foods are worth spending a little time learning about it. Combined those with buffs from your Companions and God Shrines and you'll get some serious boosts.
In Avowed, most food items will give you some Health Regeneration, Essence Regeneration, or both. A handful of food items, however, will give you buffs that typically last around 300 seconds (5 minutes). What's more, these buffs can stack — you can increase your core stats across the board by +2 and your Damage, Stamina, and Health by +20% or more.
Most (though not all) buff foods can be cooked at the Cauldron in your Party Camp. They are almost always better than the base ingredients that are used to make them, so you should make sure that you have an ample supply of buff foods on hand. If a fight is too tough, you can reload your last save, scarf down some buff foods, and try again with greater strength.
