As is the case with every new Atelier subseries, Atelier Yumia includes a new Alchemy system. This guide will go over how it works, along with some ways to craft better items as you progress.
Quicklinks: Basics | How to Make Powerful Equipment
Alchemy Basics
Item recipes are split into multiple different “Cores”. Each one determines a different aspect of the item:
- Effects: Determines the level of an item’s effects. Each effect has its own Core.
- Traits: Determines how many Trait Crystals you can equip to gear and battle items.
- Quality: Unlocked via the Skill Tree. Adds extra Quality to the final item. Note that all items added to any core contribute to Quality as well.
After selecting a Core, you’ll have to insert an item. Some require specific items, while others only needs ones from a certain category. Item effects can change the core’s properties, such as changing its shape or giving bonuses for specific elements.
From there, the initial item slot will be surrounded by extra slots, along with shining yellow lights called Mana. When adding items to the new slots, you’ll have to keep their Resonance value in mind.
Resonance is the circle that expands outwards from the slot when an item is added. If it reaches another item slot the Core’s Resonance value will increase. If it reaches Mana, then that will be added to the overall Mana value.
The goal with Alchemy is to increase the Resonance value of each core to increase their effects. Along the way, increasing the Mana value will apply separate bonuses (usually extra Quality.)
Recipe Levels
Unlocked recipes have levels, which can be increased by adding Particles. Particles are obtained from fighting enemies or interacting with randomly spawning points in each region.
Each recipe level adds new bonuses to the recipe, such as being able to make more ingots at once or adding extra starting stats to equipment.
At recipe level 5 and 8, you’ll unlock more item slots during Alchemy. This lets you improve the stats and quality of an item even further. After unlocking item rebuilding via the Skill Tree, you can add new materials into an already crafted item after improving its recipe.
If you’ve got the basics of Alchemy down, then it’s time to start making powerful equipment that can take down any enemy. This guide will go over how to get the most out of crafted gear in Atelier Yumia, improving their stats as far as they’ll go.
Making Powerful Equipment
The process of making overpowered gear in Atelier Yumia is not quite as involved as previous entries, with most of the preparation happening outside of Alchemy.
Skill Tree Unlocks
To start with, the maximum quality of gear is locked behind multiple nodes in the Skill Tree, maxing out at 999. The Skill Tree is also where you’ll unlock Synthesis Skills, useful modifiers you can pick at the start of Alchemy — the nodes for these only appear once you progress in the story.
Initial Synthesis Skills are generally small stat multipliers, but eventually you’ll get access to the skill “Draw Out Abilities”. Draw Out Abilities boosts the stats gained when using items like ingots and cloth while crafting gear.
Materials and Duplicating Items
In the first few regions, you’ll only have access to basic materials. The best method for stocking up with lots of decent materials in the early game is to reach 50% Pioneering in the Ligneus Region. This unlocks the Greenhouse, letting you duplicate materials once built. Duplicating materials only takes a few seconds real-time, and you can leave it going while doing anything else.
However, once you reach the Auruma Region, your ability to start making incredibly broken gear starts. There are two reasons for this: Rainbow Puniballs and Manufacturing Plants.
Rainbow Punis can be found in a few locations in the Ligneus region, with one hanging out on the broken bridge near Golden Lake Outlook. Rainbow Punis drop Rainbow Puniballs, which count as all elements, give you lots of mana while synthesising items, and a high Resonance value. Duplicate Rainbow Puniballs in a Greenhouse, then use these to craft your ingots and cloth.
Once you reach 30% Pioneering in the Auruma Region, you’ll unlock the Manufacturing Plant. This lets you duplicate crafted (non-gear) items, meaning you don’t have to keep making ingots.
Recipe Level
More item slots during Alchemy means more opportunities to add in stat boosting items, and that’s where recipe levels come in. As mentioned earlier, you gain more item slots for a crafting recipe when it reaches level 5 and 8.
This will likely be your main roadblock, since gathering Particles is mostly random (enemies only drop a handful.) Your best bet is to make sure you grab the Particle Gathering skills in the Skill Tree, since these give you more (and better) Particles. This also gets you the Particle Conversion skill, letting you turn higher tier Particles into lower ones when upgrading a recipe.
Buildings
While progressing through the main story, you’ll also unlock Pioneering Quests. Not only do these tie into some areas that aren’t covered by the main story, but completing the quests also unlocks a few useful buildings. This includes Magic Crystals which give a boost to item quality, and the Mana Spreader which increases the Resonance area of all materials.
Additionally, reaching 30% Pioneering in the Sivash region unlocks the Forge. This can be used to apply an extra upgrade to finished equipment, which can be boosted even further if an Anvil (unlocked via Pioneering Quests) is nearby.
