One of the biggest gameplay elements of Persona games is the friends that you make along the way. In Persona 4 the party members, close NPCs, and even some more distant characters represent the Protagonist's social links. By leveling these up through the story, you'll not only learn more about these characters but power up party members, gain the ability to unlock powerful Persona, and one even leads to a Persona 4 Golden dungeon.
Each of the Social Links is laid out by the character and Arcana that they represent, there are 28 Social Links in total. You're able to level up these relationships to rank 10 as you play through Persona 4 Golden. Below we will go through each Arcana name, the lead character, when the Social Link begins, Rank requirements, and when they're available. If there are any additional requirements for any rank, we'll also list those.
Before you get too far into planning out who you want to meet and when though it's important to know a few things:
- You will only go up a rank with your Social Link if when talking to them you get a message saying "You feel you will grow closer to this person"
- On days where you can't meet anyone you can pray at the shrine for a random bonus to a Social Link of your choice
- You get extra points if you have a Persona of the Social Link's Arcana with you. This can speed up the process greatly
