In an unexpected announcement this week, Ludosity announced it is coming out with what is basically a Nickelodeon version of Super Smash Bros. featuring a plethora of classic and modern Nicktoon characters. While several have been confirmed, including the recent box art leaks of Aang and Korra, we sat down to see what Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl characters we most want included.
Jenny aka XJ-9 from My Life As a Teenage Robot
Star of My Life As a Teenage Robot, Jenny is, well, a robot. Her show is one of the few on Nick that featured actual fighting and features her stopping an alien invasion in the theme song alone! She has built-in rocket ponytails, the strength of a million and seventy men, and her head turns into a drill! Simply put, she could annihilate SpongeBob without breaking a (metaphorical) sweat.
The show is also one of the more overlooked classics in Nick’s back catalogue, capped at only 40 episodes. With such a perfect character for a fighting game, it’d be nice to shine a spotlight on a lesser-known favorite.
Reggie Rocket from Rocket Power
Reggie Rocket, aka the only one from Rocket Power that had any common sense. Reggie kicked butt on the regular and mastered just about every extreme sport out there, from surfing to skateboarding, snowboarding, zorbing and dirtbiking, among many more. Point is, my girl is awesome!
Confident and capable, she can more than go toe to toe with the likes of Nigel Thornberry. Arm Reggie with a street hockey stick and a pair of rollerblades and she is ready to jump into action!
Dudley Puppy from T.U.F.F. Puppy
One of Butch Hartman’s lesser known creations, T.U.F.F. Puppy followed the adventures of super spy Dudley Puppy. True, he’s not the most intelligent entry on this list, but Dudley has heart — and spy gadgets!
The perfect mutt mix of dog breeds, Dudley Puppy may not have been bred for success, but it’s still in his DNA. He’s got natural fighting skills and the bravery of a German Shepherd, among other bits and pieces. Like some of the other entries on this list, T.U.F.F. Puppy wasn’t a particularly popular show, but we’re hoping Nickelodeon will have a heart and give this puppy the showcase he deserves.
Cindy Vortex from Jimmy Neutron
Cindy Vortex from Jimmy Neutron was one of the first names that sprang to mind when I made this list. She starts out as the mouthy loud girl who can do Tai Chi and drink Purple Flurp at the same time to achieve a state of ultimate balance, and yet somehow she still never peaked in coolness. She demonstrates her martial-arts ability in the movie and shows her quick thinking and resourcefulness in almost every episode.
With the brawn and brains to take on the Yolkians, as well as the host of other threats faced during the TV series, I’d say the inclusion of Cindy is a no-brainer, but then I’d obviously be lying.
Angry Beavers
They’re angry, they’re beavers. They have teeth! Also Dag and Norbert are freaking adorable. True, their show wasn’t very action oriented, but these beaver brothers have always shown to make an excellent team and are able to handle whatever comes their way, when they’re not fighting each other.
Both Dag and Norbert have shown that they can do some major damage with their chompers when they put their minds to it, and having these two mad lads running around with the other Nicktoons would definitely make for some fun chaos.
Snap from ChalkZone
Snap might have been the very best part of ChalkZone (Sorry Penny). Rudy’s sidekick and childhood drawing, Snap was plucky and mischievous and always up for any adventure, excellent qualities for a Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl character.
True, his superhero outfit didn’t come with any superpowers, but having a chalk-based being in the real world leaves the door open for so many possibilities. Stronger defense? Better evasion? Chalk weapons he can pull out of thin air? Plus, he’s just so darn cute.
Really Really Big Man from Rocko's Modern Life
I actually wanted to add a character from Rocko’s Modern Life to this list, partly because the show is iconic and partly because it’s one of my favorites. Unfortunately, while Rocko is a very capable Wallaby, he’s not exactly a fighter. However, the show did get in on the trend of parodying Superman with their own character: Really Really Big Man!
Resident superhero of O-Town and earthly alien, RRBM has the usual superhero powers that would come in handy in a big fight. He also has Nipples of The Future, which they were able to get away with on Nickelodeon in the '90s. Seeing as Powdered Toast Man has already been confirmed, watching these two go mano a mano seems like an obvious choice.
