It's Happy Birthday to the HTC Vive. If you've been waiting for last years premium VR headset to drop in price, now is the time to take another look. It's exactly one year old today and in celebration, the price has been cut $100 to $699 at select retailers. This rare price drop on the Vive matches its historic low last seen during Christmas week in 2016.

While the $100 in savings is nearly identical at all available retailers, there is one that stands out: The Microsoft Store. At Redmond's online store, you can also take advantage of a month-long April promotion which gets you a free copy of Everest VR and Richie's Plank Experience to combine with the $100 off deal, making it a much more attractive proposition.

HTC Vive VR System Discounts:

  • Microsoft — $699 + 2 free games  (list price $800)
  • NewEgg — $699  (list price $800)
  • GameStop — $699.99  (list price $800)
  • Amazon — $699.99  (list price $800)
Unlike last months $100 price drop on the Oculus Rift, this deal is valid for April 5 only. You'll have to move quick to take advantage of the price break as there are only a few hours left. That said if you are considering the Oculus it is cheaper with a new list price of $499 for the Headset at the Microsoft Store (previously $599). That said, you'll still need to buy a pair of controllers for another $100 and many would argue the Vive is the better systems since VR can be expanded to the whole room, among a number of other factors.
