Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, the latest installment in Nihon Falcom's popular Ys series, has finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel – a release date for the PC version. The game will be released globally for PC on January 30th, 2018.

Originally released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, Lacrimosa of Dana ran into several translation problems with its English localization by NIS America. These translation issues were so bad that they prompted a public apology from company president and CEO Takuro Yamashita, in October. The PC release of VIII was originally scheduled for release in Q4 2017 shortly after the English console release on September 12, but on that date, it was announced that the game would be delayed until later in the quarter in order to improve translation quality. In November the release was then pushed back yet again to Q1 of 2018.

The producer in charge of the team re-writing Ys VIII's script, Alan Costa, also revealed in November that the script had been "nearly 100% rewritten" so it's no surprise that the release was delayed twice.

According to NIS America, the PC version will be released at the same time as a free localization update for both the Playstation 4 and PS Vita versions which will include improved translation, text adjustments and re-recorded audio. Those who purchase the PC version will also be able to download the following for free until February 6th:

  • Adol’s Adventure Essentials DLC - Includes Adol’s Silver Armor, Adol’s Adventurer Clothes, and Adol’s Survival Kit
  • Digital Mini Art Book - Includes a 32-page full-color art book
  • Digital Soundtrack Sampler - Includes 5 tracks
  • Laxia’s “Eternian Scholar” Costume
