Nihon Falcom's upcoming Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana has showcased new character artwork and screenshots showing off their upcoming RPG.

The biggest news is the reveal of a new protagonist to Ys VIII, the titular Dana herself was revealed with new character art and screenshots. The character Dana uses two swords called Crescent Moon Blades in combat, where she uses her speed to slash enemies in quick succession. Her movement and attack speed are also faster than the other protagonist in the game, Adol.

Speaking of Adol, he will interact with Dana in his own dreams. According to Nihon Falcom, Adol and Dana come from two different civilizations. Adol comes from a place called Siren Island, while Dana's world is more advanced and far away from the main world. Adol will essentially experience Dana's world through her eyes in his dreams.

Most of the reveal shows off some new screenshots of both Dana and Adol, and several other characters, including some battle scenes with Dana in action. Website Siliconera shows off the entire blog regarding Ys VIII.

Ys VIII is the latest installment in the long running Ys series by Nihon Falcom, which began life on the Japanese NEC PC-8801 personal computer. The Ys series, a major hit in Japan, is one of the longest running roleplaying game franchises in the world, spawning seven sequels in the main series and multiple spinoffs since 1987. For the U.S, the Ys series has seen fewer releases over the years, with handheld consoles and digital re-releases receiving the bulk of the franchise in the past six years. The last game in the series released in the U.S was Ys: Memories of Celceta, for the Playstation Vita in 2013.
