Yooka Laylee Playing Nintendo Switch

Following an update on the progression of the port, there's good news for 3D platformer fans out there with Yooka-Laylee coming to the Nintendo Switch on December 14, 2017, according to a page on the game's official website.

A bit of background: Yooka-Laylee was originally scheduled to be ported to the Wii U, but the emergence of the Nintendo Switch had put the developers in a difficult spot when it came to deciding where to direct their resources for a Nintendo port. Ultimately, they decided to cancel the Wii U version of the game in favor of producing a version for the then-unreleased Nintendo Switch in December of last year. They weren't the only developers of a Kickstarter-funded project to follow this pattern: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night had decided to cancel its Wii U port as well after announcing that they would be working on a Switch version of the game. A trailer for the Yooka-Laylee port was made available alongside the announcement:

Now with Yooka-Laylee coming to the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo fans will be able to join everyone else who has been playing the game along with the benefit of all the game's patches up to the current date. The Switch port will feature single Joy-Con play for all eight multiplayer games, a baked-in achievement system, and the ability to take the game on the go as with many other titles on the hybrid console.

The release of the game on the Switch means that Playtonic will have deployed the game to all promised platforms on their Kickstarter campaign. There's no word on what the company's next project will be or what their future plans for updating the game might be, including whether or not the Switch version will be getting a physical release (something many commenters on the news post are asking for). If you'd like to get your hands on Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo's newest console, you won't have to wait long: it'll be available on the Nintendo Switch on December 14, 2017. Pre-orders will open on the Nintendo eShop on December 7.
