Hot off the heels of Trails in the Sky: the 3rd's western release last month, XSEED Games have announced that they're bringing yet another Nihon-Falcom PC release to the west. Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection (otherwise known as Zwei II in Japan, a sequel to 2001's PC release Zwei!!) later this summer. The version that XSEED is specifically translating is 2009's Zwei II Plus re-release, this edition featured new content in the way of additional costumes, weapons, pets, dungeons, and more being added.

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection is an Action RPG that plays somewhat similarly to Nihon-Falcom's own Ys series, and incorporates a food-based experience system not unlike the one found in Odin Sphere. Although the title is technically the sequel to a previous release in Japan, and features characters from the previous title, the story is supposedly standalone and can be played without knowledge of the original game or its characters. That being said, news pertaining to the original Zwei!! might be forthcoming as the Editor for Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection has posted to his twitter the following.

Regardless of the situation surrounding the first Zwei!!, we'll keep you up to date with Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection as more information pertaining to the game's localization shuffles in to place.

Quick Take

With Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection's announcement, more or less every Nihon-Falcom developed PC game that has released since Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim (barring some exceptions) will be translated, and readily available in the west. Last year's Xanadu Next was yet another great game in Nihon-Falcom's library that finally got the chance to receive a decent translation in the west that unfortunately ended up performing below XSEED's expectations, so hopefully Zwei doesn't suffer the same fate. I don't think I've played a Falcom game that XSEED has released that I outright didn't like, so I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on this!
