A world-premier trailer for the newest game from Bandai Namco was revealed at the Xbox E3 conference. Tales of Arise is the next chapter in the iconic fantasy-JRPG series Tales Of, bringing players to fantastical new worlds in 2020. This technically wasn't the first we'd heard of the game as screenshots were leaked ahead of the big reveal.

Tales of Arise takes place on the planet Dahna, where the people have always revered those from the neighboring planet of Rena, a land supposedly of the "righteous and divine." Those from Rena have taken advantage of those from Dahna for over 300 years as lies became truth from being told so often.

So begins Tales of Arise, where the stories of two people from two different worlds are intertwined as they work toward a new future free from the lies they were taught.

The game is visually stunning and was created using Unreal Engine 4. The battle mechanics promise to be faithful to the Tales series as a whole but have been given some updates for players to explore. With Yusuke Tomizawa, head of the God Eater franchise, helming the Tales Of team, this chapter promises bold storylines and gameplay.

For those unfamiliar with the series, it began back in 1995 with Tales of Phantasia for the Super Famicom. It has since had sixteen main titles and a bunch of spinoffs. If you don't have time or energy to play them all, fear not! Every main game stands on its own with all-new characters, storylines, and worlds. They are spiritual successors to each other, keeping the same themes and mechanics but changing the core storylines. Previous entries are certainly worth a playthrough, but they won't be necessary for you to enjoy the new game.

Tales of Arise is set to release in the Americas in 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There's no word yet if a Google Stadia or Nintendo Switch port will become available. Check out the trailer here!
