After months and months of leaks, Assassin’s Creed Origins was finally officially revealed during Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference. The trailer and the gameplay showed real in-game footage running on the Xbox One X at 4K.

The first trailer revealing the game showed plenty of landscape shots of Ancient Egypt, as well as some shots of the main character Bayek. While we already knew who the main character was and where the game was going to take place thanks to leaks, it was nice to finally see the game in action for the first time.

The first trailer also showed some interesting things like boats out at sea, assassins shooting arrows from horseback, and what looked like gladiator fighting.

Then, the creative director for the game went out on stage to introduce the first ever gameplay demo for the game, which was comprised of in-game footage that was edited a bit for the conference.

The gameplay shows the main character Bayek returning to his hometown for an assassination mission. During the mission, we see things like him using an eagle to tag enemies, slow-motion arrow shots, and some combat. Speaking of combat, it looks very much improved in this gameplay demo compared to past games in the series.

It also showed that you can loot enemies and equip their gear, something very different from past Assassin’s Creed games. According to Ubisoft’s press release, the developers are going all-in on action-RPG mechanics, allowing you to customize more aspects of your assassin in Origins than in past Assassin’s Creed games.

Microsoft concluded this part in their conference by announcing that Assassin’s Creed: Origins will come out on October 27, 2017.

After the conference, Ubisoft provided some more information concerning the game in the form of a press release. The publisher noted that Origins is being developed by the same devs who made Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. Also, Ubisoft stated that Bayek is actually the person who created the Assassin’s Brotherhood, and that the story will reveal how and why he created the brotherhood.

Additionally, the press release gave us some info on the Deluxe and Gold editions for the game. The Deluxe Edition of Assassin’s Creed Origins will include the base game, the soundtrack, a printed version of the hand-drawn world map, as well as an extra mission, gear pack, and three free ability points. The Gold Edition includes everything from the Deluxe Edition but with the Season Pass also included.

As for pre-order bonuses, all those who pre-order the game will receive the Secrets of the First Pyramids mission, which will explore the creation of the original Egyptian pyramids according to the press release.

You can find out more about the special editions of the game and the pre-order bonus here at the Ubisoft Store.

Just because I write about video games doesn't mean I'm very good at them. Unless it's Smash Bros. I'll wreck you in Smash Bros. I am also currently obsessed with Overwatch, so I'll wreck you in that too with Mercy.
