Some key story of elements of the upcoming World of Warcraft: Battle For Azeroth expansion have been datamined as reported by PCGamesN.

World of Warcraft: Battle For Azeroth is the upcoming seventh expansion to Blizzard Entertainment's MMORPG World of Warcraft. Set to release in September of this year, players can pre-order the game as of January. A number of interesting story tidbits have been datamined from the upcoming expansion, revealing some portions of the plot that's in store for fans of the game. Suffice to say, there are spoilers ahead - if you're keen on going into the expansion blind, it's best not to read any further.

Sylvanas Windrunner seems intent on capturing Teldrassil, the world tree held sacred by the Night Elves & Druids. Primarily, she seems quite concerned with Azerite. Azerite is a new material being introduced into the expansion that's the byproduct of the titan soul of Azeroth, a material that's popped up thanks to the sword of Sargeras having been plunged into the world itself. It strangely draws dangerous creatures towards it and holds untold power for those daring enough to claim it.

We also see quite a few lines talking about the conflict between the Alliance and Horde from both sides. Horde heroes talk of protecting war machines and the evacuation of Undercity. Some of the six new allied races (Void Elves & Lightforged Dranei for the Alliance, Nightborne & Highmountain Tauren for the Horde, and two yet-to-be-announced races) are mentioned at various points in the datamined lines. It seems that these new players on the field bring much-needed reinforcements to the respective armies of the Alliance and Horde, leading to an escalation in conflict over some of the capital cities of the various races of Azeroth.

I'll happily concede that I'm far from an expert on the insanely massive amount of lore in this game - I'm sure there are a few juicy tidbits in there that I just don't have the context to understand as a longtime player would. If you'd like to read about the datamined story elements in full, you can head on over to the Wowhead page that collects the lot of them. Be sure to check out the official page for the expansion to see just what it has in store for players both new & old.
