Publisher Devolver Digital isn't a stranger to mobile games, with titles like Hatoful Boyfriend and the Reigns appearing on phones. Devolver's next foray into the mobile sphere is with Witcheye, a colorful platformer coming this month.

Today, Devolver Digital announced they will publish developer Moon Kid's upcoming mobile platformer, Witcheye. Witcheye launches on August 15th, and while you wait, you can pre-order it now for iOS or Android for $2.99.

Players take control of a vengeful witch who transforms into an eyeball and bounces around stages, ricocheting into enemies and avoiding obstacles. Players swipe their phone's touch screen to move around, and can stop their movement by simply touching the screen. Witcheye features six different worlds with over 50 levels. Each world features different themes, enemies, and more. In the trailer above, we see cavernous environments, forests, and dark castles. Players even get to take on large boss enemies.

Developer Moon Kid is run by Peter Malamud Smith, a solo developer based in Brooklyn. Previous works of his include the mobile titles Satellina and Satellina Zero. Other work includes "NES-style video game adaptation of The Great Gatsby" along with Charlie Hoey, according to Moon Kid's website.

Witcheye releases on August 15th, 2019 for iOS and Android devices.

Quick Take

I'm a simple man. I see pixel art, I get intrigued. More than that, though, Witcheye looks like a game that utilizes its control scheme very well, and it's a very fair price, too. Devolver's support for mobile games is a great thing to see. There's a lot of potential in the medium, but it's ruined by so many cash grabs or gacha games. I'm not sure if I'll pick this game up right away, but I do hope it might eventually make its way to the PC market if they can find a way to translate the controls over well. They did it with Reigns, after all, but the control scheme is about as simple as it gets.
