Gwent - or, to give it its full title, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game - will be heading to smartphones later this year.
The Gwent mobile version will be released for iPhones first, with an Android release to be announced at a later date. Game director Jason Slama said that it's been a "long and hard" road to adapt Gwent to smartphones since much of the game's technology is PC-based. The multiplayer for Gwent is powered by CD Projekt Red's GOG Galaxy software, so that aspect - and much more of the game's inner workings - needed to be adapted to the mobile platform. Slama says he thinks the mobile version of Gwent represents "the best we have to offer" in terms of its visuals and gameplay elements. More details on this will be available later in the year.
Meanwhile, Gwent is gearing up for its first expansion, which launches tomorrow on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Centering on the vampire Dettlaff van der Eretein, the expansion is called Crimson Curse and will introduce over 100 new cards to the game, many of which come complete with entirely new abilities and mechanics for players to grapple with. In addition, Crimson Curse will add 5 new leader cards, some of which will be characters players have encountered before in the Witcher franchise.
