The patch, which has been deployed to the Playstation 4, clocks in at 2.6GB, with the Xbox One sure to follow at some point today. The size of the patch for the Xbox One might differ, but it's most likely within the same ballpark. Interestingly, a PC player on Reddit is reporting that they've been getting a 5GB patch that carries version number 1.21. Nobody knows how the 1.21 patch is different from the 1.20 patch, but it's most likely due to building differences. Players are also reporting some bugs that got introduced with the deployment of this patch. You can check out the mega thread for those bugs and glitches here

With the second and final expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt coming early next week, CD Project RED is on the cusp of releasing a rather substantial update that implements a slew of fixes and tweaks and adds some quality of life stuff to the game in preparation for Blood and Wine

You can read the full patch notes here, and I will go through the most important changes and additions below.

  • First off: Gwent. A new book titled 'A Miraculous Guide to Gwent' will be added to the game and will help players figure out which cards they've got, which cards they haven't, and where they can buy or win them. This should make collecting all the cards a little bit simpler than before. You can get this book from the scholar you play against in White Orchard or from a merchant in Novigrad.
  • In terms of difficulty, the game will allow you to turn on enemy upscaling. This means that lower-level enemies will scale to your level in order to provide you with more of a challenge when you revisit the earlier parts of the game.
  • Some high-level crafting reagents you need to get from killing monsters will have a higher drop rate.
  • When you find a new book or a letter you will instantly be able to read it by pressing a button. No more navigating the sometimes frustrating inventory menu!
  • Other items in your inventory will be sorted into subcategories so they're easier to find.
  • The crafting panel for merchants has also been given an upgrade and will now allow you to purchase the missing ingredients directly from the crafting panel, provided the merchant in question is selling the item you need. You will also be able to repair all your equipped gear with a press of a button.
  • The map is getting some new functionality, allowing you to filter objectives and waypoints better. You will also be able to use up to 3 personal waypoints at a time so you can mark areas you want to return to later.
  • Buffs are getting more visual indications so you know exactly what each buff does.
  • Items like Gwent cards, decoctions, oils, and mutagens have been given new icons so you can easily distinguish between them, In the case of Gwent cards, it's going to be easier to see which cards belong to which deck.

The developer has also fixed a PC bug whereby Geralt's beard growth wouldn't display correctly on NVIDIA hair works. The PS4 version has also been patched so that textures of water puddles will fade properly.

Other fixed issues include one where Vivaldi wouldn't spawn in Novigrad, bugs with chests that won't open, various movement bugs, bugs that prevent some quest givers from spawning and quests you were unable to finish, and a myriad of fixes to small bugs that could sometimes not give you items you needed.

The patch is out now, with Blood and Wine unlocking at some point today for American players.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
