There are many types of games out there that are possible to enjoy, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I have a soft spot for RPGs. Personally, I find the character focus, world building and design of RPGs to be one of the most engrossing things out there in video games, for all that trying to define the genre in the idea of a computer game these days is all but impossible. That’s why when it came to covering this week’s GOG sales I was happy to see it was an RPG sale, and featuring one of the best in recent history in CD Projekt RED’s Witcher 3.

When we reviewed The Witcher 3, we gave it a very rare 10/10 and its expansions were brilliant as well. Being able to pick up the full pack for under $25 is a wonderful bargain if you haven’t played a game that succeeds where many other open world RPGs have failed. Of course, that’s not the only RPG on sale, as no matter how good a single game does not make it a genre sale. Obsidian’s kickstarted hit Pillars of Eternity is also available at a discount if you’ve been looking for a modern take on the 90s-early 2000s era Infinity Engine games like Baldur’s Gate. Additionally, the newer Tyranny they released with Paradox Interactive is available with a third of the price chopped off. There are some other titles worth checking out, from newer indie ones like The Age of Decadence to classics like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines to immersive sims (which kinda fall into this) like System Shock and Deus Ex.

I've been a gamer for years of various types starting with the Sega Genesis and Shining Force when I was young. If I'm not playing video games, I'm often roleplaying, reading, writing, or pondering things brought up by speculative fiction.
