The Witcher 3 delayed, yet again.

In an open letter to their fans, CD Project Red has announced that the release of The Witcher 3, the conclusion to their Witcher trilogy, has been pushed back another 12 weeks.

CD Project Red blames the delay on the sheer size of The Witcher 3, needing extra time to polish the product to insure that the consumers will be satisfied with the game when it releases. CD Project Red was originally aiming for a late 2014 release, but chose to push it back to a February 2015 release, for the same reason they are delaying the game again.

This is surely disappointing to many fans of the series, who have been eagerly anticipating the game. However, it is always better that a game is pushed back to ensure its quality, rather than the developer shipping an unfinished game

So, the Witcher 3 Delayed by 12 weeks. This means that the new release date is May 19th, 2015.

More About This Game

Marc Henriksen

I played my first video game when I was 4 years old and I haven't looked back since. If you can't find me playing videogames, writing, or playing music, I'm probably dead.

“Why can’t I hold all these delays?”

    2014 in a nutshell.

  • Cy

Of course it is. If this is because of adding the playable female character, I’m going to be pissed.

Not particularly pleased about this, but…. given it’s the first time CDPR are releasing on more than one platform at the same time, I can kind of understand not having full precognition of the things that may go wrong. On the upside, I think a May release is a good time with usually a bit of a lull in the release schedule.

  • Valandui

It depends for me. If the female character is one of the sorceresses
and they need to add new combat mechanics for that reason, I’m ok with
that. I’ve actually thought it would be cool to play as a mage on there
for a while. If it’s Ciri, she’s basically female Geralt and I
    completely agree.

  • Fenrir007

By all means delay it for a year, even. I’d rather wait than deal with half finished games filled with bugs and cut content.

  • Cy

Mostly I meant I’m gonna be pissed if they just added in a female character to appease the SJW crowd, and not because they meant to from the start. But you have a good point about the combat too.

  • Valandui

I agree with you there. Hopefully I’m not wrong on this, but CDPR doesn’t strike me as a developer that would cave to SJW pressure.

  • Giela

ffs I pre ordered it last week and now it gets delayed

  • DukeMagus

Better delayed but solid than on shcedule but Assasin’s creed: Unity

You get extra points for knowing the difference between “than” and “then”.

  • I’m actually glad they’re taking the time to polish the final product. I’m in no rush to experience this game as I’m sure it’ll come off as one of the best in the recent years.
Though I do hope they’re trying to avoid gimping the PC version of the game thanks to the limitations of consoles. We’ve seen how beautiful the game can get and the recent trailers not only fail to portray this, but they also establish a much disappointing downgrade.
I can only hope they fix this issue along with the polishing of the final sections of the game.

I don’t know how people can say “yey, I’m happy/glad about this!”. Don’t get me wrong, I can understand the delay and I’m not going to spit my dummy out about it, I’d rather play a refined game than a rushed one, but another delay after saying “no more delays!” combined with the fuss about the graphics in the last trailer and the rumours that development hasn’t being going too smoothly is more than a little worrying, certainly nothing to be happy about. CDPR have bagged themselves a lot of brownie points over the years with their approach to PC gamers (of which I am one) but, for me at least, they used a couple of those up with this delay.

  • Fenrir007

    Nonsense – I merely guessed!

  • Better delayed than unfinished and unpolished. I can wait, its not like I won’t have anything else to do in the meantime.
