Manga Gamer Sorry

MangaGamer announced on Febryary 19, 2016 that they will no longer be publishing games from developer Winged Cloud. MangaGamer has been publishing Japanese visual novels for English speaking audiences since 2008. Winged Cloud has had many of their games available in English via the publisher since the tail end of 2015 however, not for much longer.

The publisher had previously announced a new title from Winged Cloud called Sakura Dungeon that would be available later this year however, it seems the the two companies relationship has come to an end. MangaGamer cites the reason for the split as one of “intractable creative differences”. It was recently announced that Winged Cloud’s upcoming title Sakura Dungeon will be published by Sekai Project at the Animation on Display convention in Santa Clara.

“Regretfully, we must announce that MangaGamer will no longer be publishing Winged Cloud games, including the previously announced title, Sakura Dungeon. Due to intractable creative differences, we have been forced to let Winged Cloud go, and will no longer be able to offer support for their current or future titles.” announced MangaGamer on their blog.

While they will no longer be publishing games from Winged Cloud players still have a chance to purchase their titles until February 29, 2016. This includes the MangaGamer Editions of Winged Clouds games complete with quality updates. After the 29th however, Winged Cloud games will no longer be available through the publisher.

Those that purchased Winged Cloud’s Sakura Santa on Steam will see that the game is being transferred over to the new publisher handling the developers English version releases. Players that would like to retain their MangaGamer versions of the game will need to uncheck the “automatic updates” box.

Fans of Winged Clouds Sakura games will no longer be able to acquire them through MangaGamer and instead will need to go through their new publisher, Sekai Project, including their new game Sakura Dungeon. New publisher Sekai Project is actually an old partner the developer has worked with before. Although the original post have been removed, the developer has had issues with Sekai Project in the past leading to them moving to MangaGamer late November of 2015.

It seems that Winged Cloud has made up with Sekai Project over the three month period of working with MangaGamer and are now returning to their old publisher. The reason the developer has been changing hands between smaller publishers so often could be related to Winged Cloud's support from Patreon. Regardless of the reason the visual novel developer is gaining a reputation for being difficult and jumping publishing ships. Those interested in their games can purchase them from MangaGamer until February 29th and from Sekai Project thereafter.
