Carbine Studios announced the official date WildStar will go free to play. The Sci-Fi MMO will launch its freeto-play version September 29, 2015.

The switch to a free to play version of the game comes with a massive update to  the game. The update will add new content, loot, as well as a plethora of other improvements. The closed beta for this new free to play model is still ongoing. The second phase of this beta will focus on the economic aspects of the MMO, ensuring they will flow with the new format of the game. Current subscribers to WildStar can enter the beta now, while players interested in trying the game after the recent free to play announcement can register for a chance to participate.

Carbine Studios revealed its plans to launch a free to play version of WildStar back in May. This had been rumored for some time given Wildstar’s rocky start. The game struggled to maintain subscribers for the retail price of $59.99 and a monthly subscription of $14.99.

Guild Wars 2 recently announced its plans to go free to play as well. Many have speculated other MMO's potentially going free to play, namely World of Warcraft.

The WildStar team spoke about how they will place no restrictions on any of the game's content, that every area of the game will be playable. Players can also hit the same level cap and and path levels like premium players.

We place no restrictions on any of the game’s content. Every zone, every dungeon, every raid, every battleground… they’re all available. All players will be able to create characters of every race, class, and path while choosing any tradeskills they like. Characters can achieve level 50 and path level 30, just as they can under the current system. There are some restrictions on services and social functions, however.

WildStar was one of TechRaptor's most anticipated games of 2014. We said it could possibly be "one of the best MMO’s out there."
