Wield Lightsabers in For Honor During Star Wars Day

May the 4th, also known as Star Wars Day is upon us. It's the day we celebrate all things Star Wars, the mega-franchise that millions have come to cherish and adore since the debut of the 1977 space opera Star Wars. As part of the celebrations, Ubisoft's third-person melee fighting game For Honor (Our Review) is having a special event.

During Star Wars Day, you'll be able to wield lightsabers, or rather the swords and other instruments of death (including axes and polearms) you already own will be tinged with the laser-like glow that resembles a lightsaber. This won't have any special gameplay bonus, it's really just a cosmetic enhancement for fun. Ubisoft hasn't announced how long the event will last. It starts today, and it could very well end today, or it could run for a longer period.

The community reaction has been mixed. Some fans loved it, requesting skins and a permanent mode, while others criticized it and requested to disable it, as it interferes with the ability to tell certain moves apart, while also feeling out of place with the game's setting. You can see a video demonstration below.

It has been an ambivalent year for the Star Wars franchise in the world of video games. Last month a new AAA Star Wars was revealed during the Star Wars Celebration on April 13, Jedi: Fallen Order, currently in development by Apex Legends studio Respawn Entertainment. On the other hand, earlier this year we had confirmation that an open-world Star Wars game had been canceled by Electronic Arts. This is also following the shutdown of Visceral Games in 2017, which was working on a Star Wars game. Jedi: Fallen Order will be action melee where you play as Cal Kestis, a young Padawan in hiding.

Yesterday, Electronic Arts also announced that dozens of classic Star Wars games were being added to EA Origin Access, their subscription service under their own digital distribution platform. You can check the full list here. So if you were a subscriber, you'll now be able to download several classic Star Wars games. If you weren't, you can subscribe at any time here.

There's also a Star Wars Day sale going on at GOG.com, which started on May 2 and will run through May 9th at 10PM UTC, which gives you plenty of time to get around to it.

What do you think of For Honor's lightsaber event? And are you looking forward to Jedi: Fallen Order? Let us know in the comments below!
