Death Stranding Release Date Confirmed With New Trailer

We reported on the Death Stranding release date leak this morning, and it has now been confirmed with a brand new trailer, which you can see below. Death Stranding will release on November 8 for the PlayStation 4. We hoped the release date would be confirmed with a trailer, to shed more light on this game, which based on what we had seen so far, always seemed so weird and cryptic. The exact meaning of what see in this new eight-minute trailer still remains somewhat elusive. However, it makes more sense, especially as it was accompanied by a tweet from Kojima himself with a personal statement.

We include the full image below for easier reading. As you can see, it includes a photo of actor Norman Reedus covered in oil, Kojima's autograph, and his statement. He promises to offer a "completely new type of action game, where the player's goal is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society." You will play as Sam Porter Bridges, and your role seems to be bridging these isolated cities somehow, "creating bonds with other players around the globe." There are no other details on what exactly this potential multiplayer mode will play like.

Kojima has also just shared four great posters of game characters.

The trailer itself shows a wild reel of scenes of what seems like a mainly cinematic action game, with stunning performances by actors Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and even cameos by filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn. The motion capture looks cutting edge, with amazing facial animation. One of the segments shows Sam Porter Bridges (played by Norman Reedus) in a dialogue scene with what looks like a terminally ill United States President, and he tells her "America's finished," as she begs him to find a way to make humanity come together again in order to survive.

The trailer cuts to another segment as Sam explores a desolate land, riding a futuristic motorcycle wearing the same weird hazard suit we saw in older trailers. He's chased by some kind of oil monster that stalks him through oil bursts from the ground. We see Sam wearing another suit as he explores the land, using a special technological ladder to climb over a cliff. There's the introduction of "homo demons," a militant separatist group, whom Sam calls a "bunch of terrorists going around towns killing people."

There's a lot more to unpack in this trailer, which experienced Kojima fans will probably have more to say about. The gameplay we see briefly includes some stealth in the tall grass, evading some scientists first and then punching them, some third-person shooting, and even a first-person segment where it seems the player is possessed by the oil monster. It seems like the more answers we get from Kojima, the more questions we end up having.
