The long in development Wattam finally has a solid release date, announced at Sony's State of Play Event. First announced in 2014, the next game from Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy creator Keita Takahashi will finally arrive this December on PlayStation 4 and the Epic Games Store on PC.

The new trailer showcases the gameplay many have already experienced at many a PAX event. As the player, your main goal is to make social connections between the colorful inhabitants of a floating cartoon world. In a way, it's very similar to PlayStation exclusive Death Stranding, and you might even be able to call it a strand game.

The gameplay also inexplicably involves making characters jet into the air in a puff of smoke, wear funny hats at your discretion, and hold a death grip on their friend's hands. In other words, it's just as wonderfully weird as Takahashi's last two projects.

As part of today's release announcement, Sony released a Q&A with Keita Takahashi that explores the game in further detail. When asked what the goal of Wattam is, Keita explains that he "wanted to make the game [he has] never played before." Keita also talks about how he has two kids now, which has drastically changed his work scheduled when compared to his days working at Bandai Namco.

Now I have two kids, and taking care of them is sometimes harder than game development. When I was working at Namco, I had been working from 10am to 10pm every day. But I can’t do that now. I have to help my wife as much as possible. Of course, I have talked about game and design with the team a lot, but I didn’t have any time besides making Wattam at the office. So I had been eating lunch while working on my desk. But anyway, I am not a person who likes to talk a lot, haha.

We hope that Mr. Takahashi has plenty of time to enjoy Wattam with his kids once it fully arrives in just a few short months.
