The popular Rockstar game The Warriors, based on the 1979 movie of the same name and released on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, has been re-released for the PlayStation 4 in Europe.

The game is part of Sony’s download and play service, which sees the PS2 title being sold on PSN for £11.99, with North American pricing not released at this time. It should be noted that the game will not be released in Germany, according to the European Playstation blog, and has not been rated on the German USK.

The PlayStation 3 re-release of the game was not rated or released in Germany either, although the original film was released and was a commercial success in the nation.

Based on the cult classic movie, The Warriors follows the plot of the movie closely, where we play as members of the Brooklyn based street gang The Warriors, as they attempt to survive a gauntlet of colorful gang members after they were falsely accused of killing a popular gang leader.

A 1-2 player beat-em up brawler, the game, released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, received positive reviews due to its production values, gameplay and homages to the movie.

The PlayStation 4 version brings the game to full 1080p up-rendering, and will have trophy, shareplay, remote play, and second screen support for game manuals with the PS Vita or PS App.

Quick Take

The Warriors is one of those games you just didn’t expect much from when it was released, but were pleasantly surprised that it was so good. It was already an obscure audience because the movie, while a cult classic by today’s standards, was never really popular due to its subject matter and graphic depictions of violence. That all said, the crazy cast of characters and colorful gangs shown in the movie are what make The Warriors game so special, and Rockstar did a great job at translating the movie into a well produced, playable video game.

I am also curious to see what the pricing and release date are for North America, my guess would be $14.99 or somewhere in there, but The Warriors I would say is a highly recommended title if you want to add a brawler game to your PS4 library, or just in general want to play a good game.
