Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide is already something of a mouthful. It’s nothing compared to the new map and game mode DLC, SCHLUESSELSCHLOSS. Set in a new map of the same name,  the DLC introduces Last Stand mode, where players will battle endless waves of Skaven for as long as possible.

Developed by Stockholm-based studio Fatshark, in association with Games Workshop, Vermintide saw a return to the classic Warhammer setting in the biggest-budget title ever to be set in that iteration of the Warhammer IP. Most video games focus on the grim, dark, and futuristic Warhammer 40K universe, but Vermintide has shown that it’s classic fantasy setting is still able to draw popularity.

In an admirable move, the new mode will be available for free to all players, along with the town Ubersreik. Owners of the actual DLC will be able to play on other areas of the map, but anyone invited to a game hosted in the DLC areas will also be allowed to use them. Fatshark have stated that they want to promote unity among players, rather than divide them by who has or has not paid for the content.

SCHLUESSELSCHLOSS

Amusingly, Fatshark have admitted that the name of the DLC is a lot to handle, and are accepting suggestions for a new title. The best 100 entries, as selected by them, will recieve the content pack free of charge. Proposals may be submitted on the official website. This is the first time we’ve seen such interactivity in DLC since Gaslamp Games’ You Have To Name The Expansion Pack. “SCHLUESSELSCHLOSS” is a portmanteau of the German words for ‘key’ and ‘closed’, ‘schluessel’ and ‘schloss’, respectively. Hopefully some of you can work that into a catchier name, because if you can bend it into a humorous title then you have me beat already.

Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide is available on Steam. Working title SCHLUESSELSCHLOSS is expected near the end of February.
