Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions is a Trading Card Game (TCG) set in Games Workshop's Warhammer Age of Sigmar Setting. We recently previewed the rules with a booster box opening and now we're following up with a review of the Founders Pack.

As previously reported on in our Founders Pack announcement article, the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions Founders Pack contains:

  • 1 of each of the 4 core decks for Order, Chaos, Destruction and Death
  • 10 Booster Packs (each containing 13 cards) (the Founder's Pack has 14 packs in total as each Core Deck has a booster pack included)
  • 4 Unique champions cards
  • 2 Unique playmats
  • 4 Health counters
  • A deck box for carrying your cards
  • A founder’s pin
  • A numbered plaque
  • Clash of Champions – a brand new Black Library short story by Josh Reynolds
  • And an Art Print
Purchasing a Founders Pack will also gain you access to the Founders Forum on the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions forums. It will also give you access to the Beta of the new Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions app, in which you will be able to play online using the physical collection you have after scanning the cards into the app. The app is currently available to download on iOS and Android devices, but users are only able to scan their cards to build their collection; the full features will be built up over the next month after going through various development stages.

The Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions Founders Pack in terms of value alone is pretty great. The four Grand Alliance starter packs and 10 booster packs is around two-thirds of the value before you add the other content.

Everything in the box is premium quality. The four unique champions are foil copies of rare champions from the set, so having easy access to them is great. If you find them in booster packs later, you will have already have the foil, and as they're unique (which means you only need one), you will have an incredible trade for other cards. The playmats, deck box, and four grand alliance counters are all collector's items; they're not required for play over the normal mat and card counters, but they are high quality and give you that little something extra when using them. The Deck Box has Founder written all over it, so sitting down at the gaming table with it allows you to give that knowing nod to other Founders while non-founders quake in fear. The art-print is incredibly high quality and the colors are very sharp, as can be seen in the photos. The Clash of Champions novella has the short story at the front of the book, and the rest of the book contains deck list layout pages, notes pages, and the full card list for this core set. The Founders Pin, Founders Plaque, and the personalized note from PlayFusion are all very nice touches.

If you are looking to pick up each Grand Alliance Starter Pack, the Founders Pack is a great way to start. This combined with a booster box will give you enough cards to make an incredibly solid deck for each of the four Grand Alliances. To take the decks further, to a high competitive level, will require some more purchases, but that's what TCGs/CCGs are all about. The last third of the cost of this pack, on top of the card costs, is very much worth it, especially for the Foil Champions, which we think alone in the future will have a high trade value. Having the Founders exclusive items, after they are all sold out (there's a 1000 limit and ours is 0687, which if they are going out in order, means that they are almost certainly nearly three-quarters gone), will certainly be a huge kudos hit in the future. If you're only looking to pick up a single Grand Alliance starter and collect only that force, then this product probably isn't for you, unless you really want that foil Champion, in which case you could still get an incredible return trading the other cards and foil Champions away.

If you are looking to get involved with Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions, then the Founders Pack is a very worthwhile and solid value place to start.

Something that we forgot to mention in our preview article is the Booster Cards. These cards can be scanned by the player who finds them in the starter and booster packs, and then every player after who scans them increases the reward value for themselves and the original owner. Here are our Booster Cards, so get scanning and join us in increasing the rewards.
