VSFighting 2017 in Birmingham, England concluded this past weekend, and as a major stop on the Capcom Pro Tour, Tekken World Tour, and Injustice 2 Pro Series, it was a very important event for many top players to attend. In addition to the three big headliners, side tournaments were held for Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Killer Instinct.

The event was streamed on Tekken, NetherRealm, VSFighting, Electronic Dojo, Situational Damage, and Grand Master Challenge channels on Twitch. As usual, players will be listed in “[sponsor/team name] | [player name] [[characters used]]” format, and the event’s tournament brackets will be linked to on Smash.gg.

Xian manages to take the tournament from Luffy after a loss in winner’s semifinals and then coming back to reset the bracket in grand final and take it home. His win pushes him above the 1000 total point mark on the Capcom Pro Tour leaderboards; a very safe and secure spot to be in that essentially guarantees qualification for Capcom Cup in December. Luffy remains in the top 20, a spot that is a bit more volatile, but one more decent premiere placing will make it unlikely for him to be caught off guard and pushed out of range.

Injustice 2

  • 1. Biohazard [Harley Quinn, Bane]
  • 2. NASR | TekkenMaster [Brainiac, Atrocitus, Green Arrow]

Matthew Fetrow

I've been playing video games since 4 years of age, and finally began to deeply invest myself into the world of fighting games in 2015 after many off-and-on encounters with games inside the genre. I have a preference for 3D fighters, but also enjoy Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and some airdashers. I'm also a big fan of RPGs and shmups.
