Voxel-based action RPG Cube World finally has a launch window. According to developer Picroma, the game will launch on Steam "hopefully around the end of September/October 2019".

Cube World originally launched in alpha back in 2013. A messy period of sporadic updates followed, after which the game fell silent. We hadn't heard anything from Wolfram von Funck since mid-2014 when he released a video detailing his game's questing system. After that, five years went by, during which updates on the game were conspicuous by their absence. Now, Cube World is back.

On his personal blog, von Funck shared a post in which he detailed his reasons for pausing development on Cube World. He says the game "got DDoS'ed as soon as we opened the shop", and that this setback traumatized him and triggered episodes of anxiety and depression. According to von Funck, there have been several points in the intervening years at which he considered releasing an update, but he was always afraid it wouldn't be good enough. Apparently, the new version of Cube World is "basically Cube World 2.0", with everything in the game essentially reworked from scratch.

When it does launch, Cube World will offer you the chance to explore a huge procedurally-generated voxel world. You'll be able to choose your class, take on quests from NPCs, and explore the world by various methods including hang-glider and boat. The official Steam page promises a crafting system, tameable pets, and artifacts to level up, among other features. The game will support online multiplayer as well as single-player.

Assuming all goes well, Picroma's RPG will finally launch on Steam in the next month or two. Dust off that wishlist entry and get ready to go on a voxel adventure six years in the making.
