With the rush of Christmas releases coming to a close, developers have just a few more big hits to squeeze in before the final dash. Here is a list of all the big releases currently scheduled for December. If there are any that you think I’ve missed out, feel free to mention them in the comments below.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Nintendo Switch)
Possibly the biggest release to come out in December is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which arrives for the Nintendo Switch on December 1st. A long anticipated sequel to the original Xenoblade Chronicles, which came out in the West in 2011. In this open world, action RPG you play as new character Rex on the search for Elysium.
DOOM VFR (PlayStation VR, HTC Vive)
A virtual reality version of the smash-hit 2016 game DOOM comes to PlayStation VR and HTC Vive on December 1st. While not a port of the original game, it claims to feature similar scenery and set pieces, as well as the fast-paced and brutal gameplay. The original was recently ported to the Nintendo Switch on November 10th.
Gear.Club Unlimited (Nintendo Switch)
Also coming out on December 1st is Gear.Club Unlimited for Nintendo Switch. Offering 4 person local co-op in split screen mode, and online multiplayer, Gear.Club Unlimited is a racing game where you can collect and customize your own roster of supercars. This is a much upgraded port of the mobile game Gear.Club.
Seven: The Days Long Gone (Microsoft Windows)
Coming to Steam on December 1st is Seven: The Days Long Gone. This is a Thief inspired isometric RPG where you explore a post-apocalyptic environment. The game boast a open world sandbox which can be explored freely through parkour based gameplay. Seven: The Days Long Gone‘s story was written by some of the minds behind Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package (PlayStation 4)
Released on Windows 10 and Xbox One back in December 2016, and to Steam in March of this year, a PlayStation 4 port of Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package finally arrives on December 5th. The fourth in Capcom’s series of open world, survival horror, beat ’em up, zombie games, you can now play this game for the first time on PlayStation consoles.
Steep: Road to the Olympics (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)
Steep: Road to the Olympics an expansion pack for snowboarding game, Steep released December 2016, is set to arrive on December 5th. In this expansion you can explore the courses of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, taking place next year in South Korea and Japan. This expansion is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC version of the game. A Nintendo Switch port of the base game was announced for 2017; however, as of yet no release date has been confirmed.
Destiny 2: The Curse of Osiris (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
The first expansion pack for Destiny 2, The Curse of Osiris comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on December 5th. Set on Mercury, this first expansion pack for the sequel to 2016’s Destiny contains all new story missions to learn the secrets of Osiris.
The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series Collection (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Also coming out on December 5th is The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series Collection, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is a complete collection of all games in The Walking Dead Series including remastered versions of Seasons 1 & 2 as well as the 400 Days DLC and the Michonne Mini Series. It also includes The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, the series’ third season. The Walking Dead series focuses on various characters in the Walking Dead universe where players choices have consequences.
Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition (PlayStation 4)
The complete edition of Horizon Zero Dawn comes to PlayStation 4 on December 5th. This complete edition comes with the base game as well as The Frozen Wilds expansion pack. Released this year, Horizon Zero Dawn is an open world game where humans share the land with machine creatures. The Frozen Wilds is the first and only expansion pack so far and adds 10 hours of gameplay.
SpellForce III (Microsoft Windows)
Three years since the last release in the series, SpellForce III comes to Steam December 7th. The next installment of the real-time strategy, role-playing series is set to be a prequel to all previous SpellForce games, with the events taking place prior to SpellForce: The Order of Dawn.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PlayStation 4/ Japan only)
It has been a great year for the Yakuza series, with the release of Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Zero this year, and the PlayStation 4 remake of the second Yakuza game is coming to Japan on December 7th. Unfortunately, like the other games in the Yakuza series, Yakuza Kiwami 2 will not have English support in the Japanese release. However, an English version will likely be released in 2018.
Tokyo Xanadu eX+ (PlayStation 4)
On December 8th an updated port of the PlayStation Vita game Tokyo Xanadu will be released for PlayStation 4 titled Tokyo Xanadu eX+. Likened to the Persona and the Ys series of games, this action role-playing game set in Tokyo features a party based real time battle system and dungeon exploration.
Hello Neighbor (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Xbox One)
Also out on December 8th is stealth, survival horror game Hello Neighbor for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Xbox One. Hello Neighbor, which has been in Early Access on Steam for a few years, will see its full release next month. You play as man trying to break into his neighbor’s basement to uncover a dark secret while his neighbor is still home. The game boasts advanced AI that reacts to your previous actions.
LocoRoco 2 Remastered (PlayStation 4)
After the success of the release of the original remaster in May this year, LocoRoco 2 Remastered will see its arrival on PlayStation 4 on December 9th. Originally released on PlayStation Portable in 2008, in the sequel to the rolling platformer, you can now swim under water, squeeze through crevices, and gain new abilities.
Fallout 4 VR (HTC Vive)
A virtual reality version of 2015’s Fallout 4 comes to HTC Vive on December 12th. Fallout 4 VR comes with the complete core game and all-new combat, crafting, and building systems all made to fit into virtual reality. In Fallout 4 VR you fight for survival and try to rebuild your community after a nuclear war.
Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)
After the huge success of Resident Evil 7 released in January of this year, the Gold Edition comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on December 12th. Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition comes with the base first person, survival horror game, as well as the three DLC packs; Banned Footage Vol. 1, Banned Footage Vol. 2, and The End of Zoe. Also on December 12th the Not a Hero DLC staring Resident Evil veteran Chris Redfield will be available free to download for all Resident Evil 7 owners.
Okami HD (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)
A release for the current generation of consoles is scheduled for Okami HD on December 12th. The HD version of Capcom’s 2008 action adventure title will be released digitally and physically for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Directed by Hideki Kamiya, you play as Amaterasu, a goddess in the form of a wolf struggling to save her land, in this beautiful cel shaded title.
The Xbox One port of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds arrives on December 12th. The hugely popular battle royale style shooter, where you face off online against 100 other players to become the last one standing, was originally released for PC in March of this year. This is the first time that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will come to consoles, as Bluehole currently have an exclusivity deal with Microsoft.
Final Fantasy XV – Episode Ignis (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Following the release of Final Fantasy XV in November 2016, the character DLC Episode Ignis will be releaseD on December 13th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Focusing entirely on chef Ignis, Episode Ignis is the third character focused DLC to be released for Final Fantasy XV following separate titles surrounding Gladio and Prompto. Square Enix claims this DLC will include multiple endings. A port of Final Fantasy XV is stated for PC sometime early 2018.
Night in the Woods: Weird Autumn Edition (Linux, Mac OS, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Night in the Woods: Weird Autumn Edition releases on December 13th for Linux, Mac OS, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Originally released in February this year, the new edition of Night in the Woods features the directors cut of the exploration based game about a cat who returns home to find everything has changed, including all new content.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus – The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One)
The second DLC pack for Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus comes to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 14th. The first DLC pack, The Freedom Chronicles – Episode 0, was released back when the base game Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus was released at the end of October. In this new pack you play as former professional quarterback Joseph Stallion. 2 more DLC packs have already been confirmed: The Diaries of Agent Silent Death, and The Amazing Deeds of Captain Wilkins. The Nintendo Switch port is currently scheduled for 2018.
