Dontnods recently released horror-RPG Vampyr is getting a second bite at success.

Focus Home Interactive, the publisher behind Vampyr, noted in their quarterly sales review that the vampire-themed RPG will be heading to the Nintendo Switch in the future.

The game is an action-RPG set in London during the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. Players play the role of a recently turned vampire, Dr. Jonathan Reid, as he struggles to sedate his growing need for blood while keeping his moral code as a doctor intact, all the while investigating the disease that has gripped the streets of London.

Focus Home Interactive noted that Vampyr was considered a success for the company, topping the charts in Europe and has been a consistent seller during the companies second quarter. In total, Focus Home Interactive saw growth for their first-half sales during the previous year, up 33% at €44.3 million ($50.5 million). First-half sales were overall stable, sitting at around 45% total compared to 46% last year.

Along with Vampyr, Focus Home Interactive is preparing for the launch of another horror-themed RPG, Call of Cthulhu, which is slated for release on October 30th.

No official date was given for when Vampyr will be released on the Nintendo Switch. If you want to pick it up on other systems, it is currently up to 33% off on Amazon for the spooky season ahead, making it available for under $40 on all platforms.

Quick Take

Despite my own problems with Vampyr when I played it, I am glad it is getting enough traction to warrant it being re-released on the Switch. The Switch can use another decent RPG and Vampyr, despite some faults, is a good fit for the console and a good choice for Dontnod to expand their audience.

Focus Home Interactive has been gaining ground with their games lately. With Call of Cthulhu being right around the corner and other games being cult hits like The Surge or the ever-present Farming Simulator, they are being an active presence in the AA tier of gaming. Hopefully, Vampyr finds success on the Switch as well to keep up with that momentum.
