Valve Index

We reported the Valve Index teaser a few days ago, already previously leaked to Upload VR, which also includes some details from an independent source. According to this source, Valve Index will feature a wider field of view than current VR headsets such as the Valve-designed and HTC-produced Vive and the Oculus Rift, while the resolution should match the Vive Pro’s 1440×1600.

Earlier today, Valve accidentally leaked a Steam storefront page for the upcoming VR/AR headset, which was swiftly taken down soon after. However, the Internet Archive managed to snatch the page before that happened, and it's still available. The page includes a frontal shot of the headset, but the additional info is scant. It does include some hardware specifications and requirements, and possibly an accurate release date: June 15, 2019.

According to the page, the Valve Index "includes Headset." It also adds, "Controllers, Base Station and PC required," which will be separate products. The Internet Archive also managed to capture the Controllers page and the Base Station page, but those don't include any pictures, and the information is very scant. Either way, this may contradict information from the Upload VR source, who mentioned that the new headset "may also come bundled with ‘Knuckles’ controllers as well as a Half-Life based VR game that could be a prequel rather than the much-anticipated Half-Life 3."

The hardware presentation includes a short slogan: "Displays. Optics. Audio. Ergo. Experience the infinite virtual worlds of Valve Index." After some placeholder text, there's also some hardware specifications, namely the headset itself, and Integrated Headphones, Tether with DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.0 Connections, Power Adapter, Regionalized Power Adapter Plug(s), 2 Face Gaskets (narrow and wide), and Cleaning Cloth. The minimum system requirements are Windows 10, dual-core CPU with hyper-threading, 8 GB RAM, NVIDIA 970 or AMD RX480 GPU, DisplayPort version 1.2 and USB 2.0+. And the recommended requirements are Quad Core +, NVIDIA 1070 or better, USB 3.0+ for headset pass-through camera and USB port support.

What do you think of the Valve Index? Are you looking forward to a Half-Life game on VR, or would you rather die waiting for Half-Life 3? Let us know in the comments below!
