During the UploadVR E3 2019 conference this Monday, we saw some gameplay footage of Pistol Whip, a new VR shooter by Cloudhead Games. It looks a lot like Superhot, with a similar art style and frenzied shooting gameplay. The developers offered some commentary on the game's feel and gameplay style. It looks like a stylish VR shooter for fans of the genre, with some rhythm gameplay included as well.

Cloudhead Games are best known for their episodic VR adventure The Gallery, but Pistol Whip is new territory for them. It's not only inspired by Superhot, but also by Beat Saber, and it will be a vibrant neon-lit first-person VR shooter. Players will get to stream down a straight path, gunning down enemies in a frenzy. The developers also describe the game as a "music rhythm first-person shooter," where you don't have necessarily have to be dead-accurate with a gun to be able to hit your targets. And as a rhythm game, you are not required to take out enemies in any specific order.

Therefore, the focus is all on feeling, which makes sense with the title Pistol Whip. It's a game about empowering players, giving them the invincible feeling of shooting their way through an action movie set while looking like a badass at it. The music for the game is the work of Canadian label Kannibalen, which is definitely a very metal name. Pistol Whip uses the music label's library catalog to fuel the frantic shooting gameplay as the players move in the rhythm of death and bloodlust.

Pistol Whip is slated for release on all major VR devices later this year. Cloudhead Games didn't offer any other specifics beyond that at the moment, but they may share more soon as E3 happens or later this year.
