Indie publisher Deck13 Spotlight and developer SuperSexySoftware have announced a new psychological thriller first-person mystery adventure, The Shattering, slated for release by Q4 2019. The game takes place within the protagonist John Evans' dreams, with a pristine white environment art aesthetic. As the player, you must put the pieces together, collecting fragments from the protagonist's past and present, following the voice of the "Doctor" who will guide you deeper within John Evans' mind. The player will experience key moments of John's life that have defined and shaped him into who he is, then they must unravel the truth, shattering the lies that people tell themselves, and find out what exactly happened to him.

The game features a rich and constantly evolving world within John's mind, where there are no limits or rules. The environments are realistic and richly realized, painted with a pristine white aesthetic to help the game stand apart. The main story is split into five acts, piecing together knowledge of the past and an understanding of the present as the player progresses through the acts. It also features a sublime and gripping original soundtrack that aims to breathe life into each moment in the game. The Shattering has been in development for five years and it's the first title developed by the studio SuperSexySoftware.

You can find more information The Shattering on the official website. You can also wishlist the game on Steam.

Quick Take

This reminds me of Ether One, which was developed by the studio behind The Occupation, one of my favorite games of 2019 so far. I played Ether One after The Occupation, and the story is very similar to The Shattering, with the player delving into a patient's mind to unravel the truth, guided by a "Doctor." This might be an interesting first-person adventure if it manages to stand out from Ether One.
