One of the more surprising announcements at the Ubisoft E3 2019 conference was The Division Movie Netflix release. This upcoming film has finally secured itself a home on one of the world's largest streaming video services.
The Division movie will be starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Velvet Buzzsaw) and Jessica Chastain (The Martian, Zero Dark Thirty) and will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2). (This is not to be confused with a television show of the same name that centered on a team of female detectives and officers in the San Francisco Police Department.)
Variety reports that the film will center on a virus that is spread through paper money. People get infected before anyone realizes what is going on and the city of New York is devastated by this new plague. Come Christmas and American society is a skeleton of what it once was. Enter The Division: a specially-trained group of people that are activated in times of extreme crisis in order to secure the homeland.
While The Division movie Netflix release is certainly welcoming news, one unfortunate downer about the announcement is that we didn't get to see any media from the movie. No still photographs, trailers, or anything of the sort debuted at Ubisoft's E3 conference. Hopefully, we'll be seeing a trailer for this upcoming film sooner rather than later.
