Night Dive Studios, a company that specializes in restoring classic PC titles such as System Shock, made the announcement in August that Turok and Turok 2 would be digitally re-mastered by them – and now we have a trailer and release date! The first game, which was originally released in 1997 for the PC, and 1999 for the Nintendo 64, is being made available on various stores in an updated format for gamers to experience again.

Check out the release trailer below:

Turok is a game all about dinosaur hunting, and when it released in 1997 on “Turok Tuesday”, it sold incredibly well. A first person shooter that combines elements of games such as Doom and Tomb Raider, the game features cunning enemies, traps, and puzzles that the player will come across as well as the deadly weaponry at their disposal.

Turok is based off of the comics series of the same name, and met great reception from gamers on both PC (1997) and Nintendo 64 (1999), and spawned a franchise that currently includes a total of six sequels. The most recent sequel was in 2008 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC, and sold over 1 million copies – leading Propaganda Games to start working on a sequel for the Xbox 360 before Disney closed down the Touchstone games division.

Turok is scheduled to release this Thursday (December 17, 2015) and will be made available for sale through Steam, the Humble Bundle store, and GOG (who has worked with Night Dive in the past) for players to re-experience all over again.

Quick Take

It’s great seeing Night Dive complete another classic re-master, and it shows that we’re going to see a lot more from them in the future. It’s hard to get your hands on a good copy of a classic game these days, although if you’re willing to spend the time to configure your machine to run one, you’ll be able to do so digitally. With more games being re-mastered, we’ll be able to play more of the classic games we played in the past as developers get their hands on the licenses, and that’s a really good thing!
