Today, Norsfell announced that Tribes of Midgard, a cooperative survival game where players must work together to stop an invasion of Giants and survive Ragnarök, will arrive on Steam and consoles in 2020. If you want to try it sooner, the game's first open beta will begin July 26 on Steam.

“There’s a beauty to the concept of Ragnarök, and we wanted to create a game where players could experience this deadly battle from a human perspective,” said Julian Maroda, CEO and Creative Director for Norsfell. “Tribes of Midgard highlights the tenacity of humans in the face of guaranteed doom.”

Players will be able to form a tribe of 1-10 players to try and survive for as long as they can. To do so, they will need to work together in a procedurally generated world, craft new weapons, and defend the center of their village. Why? Because that is where the Seed of Yggdrasil lies, which holds the key to eternal life.

Tribes of Midgard's story begins with the Asgardian Gods and the Giants of Jotunheim feuding, to the point that the Giants decide to invade Asgard. For the Vikings of Midgard, they are cannon fodder in the war against the Gods and the Giants.

Players will be able to customize their characters, feed enemy souls to Yggdrasil, and defend their village at night from the legions of Hel. The game will offer seasons that provide new Giants for players to slay, a persistent leveling system and skill tree, and dedicated servers. Fortifications will be to be built and cosmetics will be purchasable in order to help developers pay for the dedicated servers.

Tribes of Midgard's first open beta will be playable via Steam and begins July 26 at 3 PM EST, running until July 28 11:59 EST.
