Free-to-play online strategy game Total War Arena will be shutting down in February next year.
In a news post on the game's official website, Creative Assembly staffer Joshua Williams confirmed that the game would cease live operations due to the open beta test "not [meeting] all our expectations". It sounds like Total War Arena didn't quite reach the player numbers Creative Assembly were hoping for. The development team behind Total War Arena will go on to "continue working on Total War", according to Williams, and some of the tech used in development for the game will be integrated into future Total War projects.
As a sweetener for those who played Total War Arena, Creative Assembly is offering everyone who played the game on the Wargaming Game Center platform a free piece of Total War content. If you're interested in any of the below items, there's a link to follow in the Total War Arena in-game news, or you can check out this link right here for further information. Players can choose between the following Total War-related goodies:
- Total War: Medieval II - Definitive Edition
- Total War: Rome II "Hannibal at the Gates" DLC
- Total War: Attila "Age of Charlemagne" DLC
- Total War: Warhammer "Grim and the Grave" DLC
Finally, for all Total War Arena Premium Shop purchases made between August 22nd, 2018 and November 22nd, 2018, you'll be able to receive an equivalent value of World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, or World of Warships in-game currency.
