I think by now most people are at least somewhat aware of the problems Tom Clancy’s The Division at launch. The game quickly proved to be bogged down by a remarkable amount of bugs and exploits used by players to complete content without having to put the work in. The PC got an even worse version of the game that was so open to exploits that playing in the Dark Zone meant that you wouldn’t be able to compete with the cheaters unless you, too, started cheating.
Since then, Ubisoft Massive has come a long way and has managed to fix the game to the point where The Division’s player base began to grow instead of shrink. A bunch of patches released for the game implemented many new features and fixes at the community’s request, and the game’s expansions have added a decent amount of content to the game to the point where fans are eagerly awaiting the next big content update to the game.
The community’s renewed interest in the game as a result of Ubisoft listening to their fans is most likely the reason behind Ubisoft’s decision to hold a free weekend on PC for everyone who hasn’t checked out the game yet or for people who were holding off on buying the game due to all the known technical problems present in the game on release.
From December 15 at 10AM PST to December 18 at 1PM PST, The Division will be free on Uplay PC, allowing you to play through the entirety of the core game, along with all of its free content updates, for zero dollars.
If you decide to buy the game after the free weekend, you won’t have to start from scratch since Ubisoft has said that they will transfer any and all progress made during the free weekend to the retail version of the game. If you want to get started as soon as the free weekend starts you can preload the game on uPlay right now. Note that the free weekend only allows you to play the vanilla content. If you want to play the expansion packs you can either buy the season pass or each expansion pack individually. The most recent expansion added the popular Battle Royale-style game mode to The Division. This mode pits a group of players against each other as they try to take each other down while trying to survive in the harsh weather conditions. If you decide to purchase The Division you’ll be able to grab both the standard edition and the Gold Edition of the game for 50% off from the Uplay Store.
