Last night THQ Nordic released their financial report for the most recent quarter while these normally comprise of information on company growth and profit margins they are also an opportunity for companies to provide information on development plans going forward. THQ Nordic had a lot to announce between new titles and company acquisitions.

How was THQ Nordic's quarter?

To talk briefly about how THQ Nordic fared as a company this past quarter their three gaming divisions, Deep Silver, THQ Nordic, and Coffee Stain Studios, earned SEK 641 million. Converting the Swedish Krona to USD that amounts to 67 million dollars showing growth from previous quarters of 33% and 56% respectively. Breaking that out Deep Silver grew 10%, and THQ Nordic grew 27% due to Metro Exodus' success.

Partner publishing also grew this past quarter and THQ Nordic revealed that they had a few more publishing deals in place and while they weren't ready to announce them all one of them is for Techland's Dying Light 2. There were also a few Partner Publishing acquisitions in the form of Gaya Entertainment GmbH, Game Outlet Europe AB, and KSM GmbH.

What's coming next?

While knowing that THQ Nordic is steadily growing is fantastic what fans of these developers might be more interested in hearing is what we can see from them in the future. At the moment there are a total of 81 games in development across the name THQ Nordic and there will be at least two major AAA releases between now and March 2021. Of these 81 titles, a whopping 47 of them have yet to be announced.

The financial report revealed the plans of some of the bigger development teams within the company:

 > Volition is deep in development of a brand-new Saints Row game, the first full entry in this much loved series since Saints Row IV was released in 2013. > We have entrusted Dambuster Studios with the Dead Island franchise, bringing the development of this key franchise to one of our internal studios. They are now leading the development of Dead Island 2. > Fishlabs is working on a new IP, as well as a number of unannounced projects. We’re excited to see Fishlabs grow as a major talent within our internal studio system. > Last year Deep Silver acquired the much-loved TimeSplitters IP. We’re delighted to announce that one of the series’ creators, Steve Ellis, has joined us to help plot the future course for this franchise.
Included in the above news is also that Gunfire Games, developers of the Darksiders' series, and Milestone s.r.l, developers of Monster Energy Supercross, were also recently purchased by THQ Nordic. The company that made the trailers for Cyberpunk 2077's E3 trailer and all of Overkill's The Walking Dead, Goodbye Kansas, was also purchased this quarter.

The games that THQ has announced recently including the remaster of Spongebob - Battle for Bikini Bottom, Darksiders Genesis, and Songs of Conquest have all been greatly received by the general public and they're expecting that they will succeed.

Going forward THQ Nordic will continue their current plans of investing in the companies that are already under the parent company as well as expanding further and seeking out further avenues of expansion.

What do you think of these announcements? Are you excited to hear about a new Saints Row title coming? Are you surprised that TimeSplitters is going to make a return?
