San Diego Comic-Con is now over and it brought out a whole lot of new trailers for the biggest upcoming blockbusters and TV shows like The Walking Dead, Justice League, and Blade Runner 2049. Thor: Ragnarok, due out November 3rd, also received a new trailer, and a user on reddit noticed some music used in the trailer came from Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number.

The soundtracks for both Hotline Miami games are some of the most celebrated in recent times and arguably the games' most talked about aspect. Hotline Miami is all about the '80s, and judging by the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, there's little doubt the film's style is heavily influenced by the '80s as well. So, something from Hotline Miami's soundtrack—either game—being related to the film would definitely work.

Right around 24 seconds in the trailer above you can hear the Hotline Miami 2 song kick in, which is In the Face of Evil created by Magic Sword. It doesn't play throughout the whole trailer, as it uses several different songs throughout, but In the Face of Evil certainly lends some style to the trailer as a whole. It's worth noting, too, that In the Face of Evil is not simply a song licensed by Dennaton Games, the developer, for use in Hotline Miami 2 but was developed specifically for the game.

Quick Take

Most people will probably have a "huh, neat" sort of reaction to this or "who cares," but I think this is really cool. It's not that gaming needs mainstream acceptance to be "legitimate," but it's nice to see affirmation that something from this medium is well-recognized. And I'd say that the song here wasn't just in the trailer, as it played a big role in setting the tone. The rest of the music could fit in for any action movie trailer out there and this was the only one to give that '80s vibe that Thor: Ragnarok is obviously going for.
