Publisher THQ Nordic has revealed some new gameplay details for the upcoming justice simulation game This Is the Police 2, and it has some features you might not expect. According to a press release and the trailer that came along with it, This Is the Police 2 will feature tactical turn-based combat, bringing players directly into the fray. This is a departure from the first game's more management sim style, in which players just had to make sure that police officers were correctly equipped to handle a situation, with no direct combat systems in play.

This is all made evident in the trailer, which you can watch below. In it, two police officers interrogate a criminal named Warren, with one of the officers clearly unhinged. It seems that once again, players will have the choice as to what type of police officer they want to be, from by the book good cop, to cold-blooded bad cop. The game throws players into Sharpwood, a cold frontier town where a young woman named Lilly Reed has recently become sheriff, they'll need to take a new approach this time around, taking cops under direct control during particularly difficult and dangerous missions.

It's in these dangerous missions that the new combat system will come into play. You'll have to carefully study the terrain, constantly adapt your plans, stealthily approach your suspects and use non-lethal weapons and equipment. The stakes are high too, as a single bullet is enough to take down a party member, meaning that gunfights should be approached carefully. Don't let the turn-based combat fool you though, as This Is the Police 2 is just as story-focused as its predecessor. It just continues the series' habit of mixing multiple genres together, incorporating elements from adventure, puzzle, strategy and mystery games into one package.

This Is the Police 2 will be released later this year on PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. If you want to find out more about the first game, be sure to check out our review here.
