With Square Enix’s upcoming THIEF reboot just around the corner, the company has created an enticing incentive for fans to revisit those old gems gathering dust on your shelf.

Square Enix and Amazon recently unveiled their “ultimate Thief mod contest”, challenging prospective Thief modders to create something that will wow fellow gamers and critics alike.

Whether it’s crafting new missions or adding new twists to classic levels, players and modders are invited to show off their creations for the chance to win some amazing prizes. Competition entries are being accepted in two categories; a short video showcasing your mod, or a video pitch of a mod idea you’d like to see come to life in the future.

Winners will be determined by the community, as well as Square Enix and Amazon judges. A grand prize winner from each category will then be selected and both will be awarded some insane loot.

This haul includes; a high-end AMD gaming rig, all-expenses paid trips to E3 2014 and the Eidos Montreal Studios, Steam codes for Square Enix games, an Amazon Kindle HDX, as well as a game dev book for said Kindle.

Sounds like the heist of the century to us. Five finalists from each category will also be awarded with an Amazon Kindle HDX, a game dev book, and Steam codes. Also, every single entrant to the competition will receive a free digital version of the 1999 hit, Thief: Gold, so go reserve yours now!

If this sounds like your cup of tea, head on over to the contest page for registration details. Additionally, check out the Dark Mod team’s website for some tips and tricks on mod creation. Entries close on the 14th of April 2014.

THIEF is set for a February 25 release in North America, and will hit European shelves on February 28th. The game is coming to PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.
